A 21-year-old woman who goes by u/Crumbzicle shared how her 26-year-old boyfriend accused her of being 'stingy' and "letting him starve" for not cooking the one time he asked. She got home at 11:37 p.m., was tired, and had a headache coming on. She asked him to heat some leftover Chinese for her, but then he started pacing because there was "nothing" to eat. She suggested several quick meal options, but all he did was give her a "pleading look." The post was shared on August 2, 2026, and it received 3,300 upvotes and 1,700 comments.
'You’re a grown man with two legs'
When the author got back home, her boyfriend was gaming with his friends. She had no issues with it, but after 10 minutes, she suggested they watch their show. She also asked him to reheat some leftovers for her, and he did. But then he began pacing around the room, wondering what to eat. She gave him several options: instant noodles, oatmeal, rice with tin mackerel and veggies, but he said no to every single suggestion.
He put on his clothes and asked if he could go buy some noodles from the gas station, to which she replied, "Watcha asking me for? You’re a grown man with two legs. Of course, you can. Who gonna stop you?" But he was actually waiting for her to give him money. When she realized it, she told him she had no money for extra snacks and drinks when there was food in the house. He called her "stingy," but she reminded him that her being "stingy" was the reason why they could still eat and pay bills.
No credit card for junk food
He threw a mini tantrum, sighing on the couch and talking about how hungry he was. She was tired of his moaning and offered to cook some rice if he made the meat, but he still refused. Then he asked her if she was going to let him starve because she wouldn't cook. She quickly snapped back, "No, you're going to starve yourself because you don't want to make yourself anything to eat when you can."
She had told him countless times in the past not to wait till she was home to figure out what to eat, or not to wait for her to cook for him. She was adamant that she would not give him her credit card to buy food when he could've cooked for himself. For a long while, neither of them backed down. However, the author posted an update saying he apologized for his behavior and they managed to reach a compromise.

The outlet also asked what chores they were expected to do, and the female respondents listed cooking, food shopping, and laundry, while men did the yard work and took out the trash. One respondent said, "I do all of the cooking and meal planning. [My husband] gets off work earlier and just sits there until I come home an hour later, sometimes. He cannot even start dinner!" This sentiment reflected the author's situation. Her boyfriend was in between jobs and was mostly at home. Even then, he refused to make dinner when he had the time.
