Halle Bailey, the singer and actor who will play Ariel in the live-action remake of Disney's "The Little Mermaid," has revealed the first look at the new Little Mermaid doll, a replica of her face. Bailey posted an adorable video on her Instagram and Twitter accounts. Bailey shared how she felt about the new doll, which looked just like her. The actress was seen holding it in her hands and was emotional as she pointed out all the similarities between herself and the doll.

Bailey was thrilled about the doll and revealed how much it means to have a Little Mermaid Ariel doll that looks like her. She captioned her post with, “omg 💗 the little girl in me is pinching herself right now.. I have my own Little Mermaid Ariel doll !!! I can’t believe how much she captures my version of this iconic character 💕 brb gonna go cry now …”



 

 

The video also showed Bailey trying to hold back her tears and stating that she was "literally choking up because this means so much to me." Later she laughed and said she would take the doll home and hide it forever. "The Little Mermaid" doll has received a lot of attention from fans, who were thrilled to see a doll that looks like Bailey. Bailey's sister and another half of the music duo, Chloe x Halle, also expressed her excitement in the comments, saying she would buy 100 of them. Actor Rachel Zeiger also commented and congratulated Bailey on her milestone moment.

According to Scarry Mommy, the reveal of "The Little Mermaid" doll came after online criticism that the character of Ariel, a mermaid, was going to be portrayed by a Black actor. Bailey had previously expressed her feelings on the feedback and felt pressure to do the character justice.



 

 

In an interview with E! News at the D23 Expo, Bailey expressed her excitement about the film and how surreal it was to be a part of it. She also mentioned that she put pressure on herself to deliver the same feelings she had when she first saw the movie as a little girl.

"The Little Mermaid" is set to premiere in theaters on May 26, 2023. Bailey's casting as Ariel was announced in July 2019 and the live-action remake will be directed by Rob Marshall. The film also stars Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula and Javier Bardem as King Triton.
