Maia revealed that her husband had always been an avid Pokémon fan, a trait she loved about him.
People who love Pokémon often share a spirit that's both adventurous and playful. Maia Keating (@maiakeat), a Filipino woman, was already thrilled to learn that her soon-to-be husband, Grant, was a passionate Pokémon fan. But the night before their wedding, September 21, 2024, Maia was left in awe when Grant and his friends “invaded” her bridal suite to play Pokémon, simply because it had “more room.” In a TikTok video, Maia shared a clip of the impromptu party, and the internet couldn't help but see nothing but huge "green flags" in Grant. “He’s a keeper,” people are telling Maia.
The 7-second footage shows some men sitting on sofas in the bridal suite, engaged in swiping and playing Pokemon deck cards. Another table in the room was occupied by another pair of men, who too seemed to be playing the same game. "It was after the rehearsal dinner and a lot of our friends had made it to the hotel after work, we got married on the beach about 90 minutes from our home,” Maia told Newsweek.
“They all wanted to hang out and play and my husband asked if they could use my room because I had a suite with tables. He had already had a bachelor week in Atlantic City and he just wanted to chill that night,” she described to the outlet. She said that even though her husband was chilling out with his friends, she lay in bed to recover from a bad cold. As far as the groom was concerned, she wrote, “I’m almost positive they didn’t leave until after midnight,” in the caption of the video which has been viewed more than 5 million times.
The video enticed thousands of people to comment on how they too wish to manifest a love like this couple. Tons of TikTokers told Maia that her husband was a big “green flag” and she shouldn’t let him go anytime. “The greenest green flags known to mankind,” said @crosscreationdesignstudio. With a sobbing emoji, @rockyrrr wrote, “I only want this love to find me!” @beckybrown5642 said, “That's how you know he's a keeper. He's not out running ‘The Hangover’ girl. He and his friends want to be near you and play their games.”
@obie5631 said the moment was “so wholesome,” while @holdtheweather said it was “actually adorable.” @ladyv951 commented, “You picked a winner! When you have babies it will be family fun!” The video also caught the attention of a competitive Pokemon TCG player named Rahul Reddy (@thefleeee1) who jumped in to share a comment. Maia replied, “My husband loves you he’s always screaming go chargers at you when he sees you at regionals!”
Speaking to the media channel, Maia shared that although she isn’t into Pokemon as Grant is, she loves going to related events with him as they get to explore different places. As far as this little wedding episode is concerned, it is definitely going to make it into the memory books that their children will cherish as priceless heirlooms. "Those are the little moments where I realized just how good-hearted he is."
