In an episode of the famous sitcom "Friends," Ross accidentally said Rachel’s name while standing at the altar with his fiancée, Emily. Surprisingly, Emma (@emmagraceshay) from Brisbane relived the epic scene at her own wedding. As she stood at the altar, ready to hear him say the beautiful wedding vows, her partner became tongue-tied and said her sister's name instead of hers. Emma shared an 11-second clip on TikTok on September 20, 2026, reminiscing about the embarrassing episode, which has tallied 2.3 million views. While she laughed it off, viewers urged her to rethink her marriage.

@emmagraceshay Plot twist: it’s my sisters name. Still not over being called Emily at the altar. #WeddingTok #WeddingFail #weddingday #MumTok #australianmum ♬ original sound - Tyra

Oops, wrong name

The clip captured the groom holding Emma’s hands. “Take thee,” he said after the officiant, but when it was finally time to say the bride’s name, he got it wrong and said “Emily," instead of Emma. There was obvious nervous laughter among the guests. The bride too laughed it off and dismissed the slip of the tongue.

A little slip-up

Unless it’s the revelation of a secret that may disrupt important family events, a slip of the tongue is a common phenomenon. For instance, according to Psychology Today, most humans make somewhere between 7 and 22 verbal slips daily. For every 1,000 words spoken, they make one or two errors, about one every seven minutes of talk or speech, considering that the average pace of speech is 150 words a minute. Similarly, a survey of 1,700 people found that misnaming someone isn't uncommon and is committed by people of all age groups. In fact, the report explained that misnaming doesn't necessarily indicate aging or Alzheimer’s disease. While people like Emma ignore such funny mistakes and move on, most people don't let it slide.

‘Stop the wedding’

For instance, netizens doubt that Emma’s husband must have something going on with Emily, her sister. They are furious at Emma for not walking away from the marriage. @aijla0_0 commented, “I’d stop the wedding immediately.” @justmeadesina speculated, “But I don’t get how he messed up when he’s repeating the person officiating… weird.” @jessica.thea.moss remarked, “Stop the wedding! Stop the wedding!”
