Groom utters ex-girlfriend’s name at the altar — but it was the bride's reaction that stole the show

'I would cancel the wedding; that's a big red flag.'

Groom utters ex-girlfriend’s name at the altar — but it was the bride's reaction that stole the show
Ross says Rachel's name at the altar instead of Emily's Still from the Sitcom Friends | NBC

If you've watched "Friends" more times than you can count, you definitely remember the epic scene where Mr. Ross Geller accidentally takes Rachel's name instead of Emily's at the altar. What if that happens in real life? What if a groom, instead of his bride's name, takes his ex-girlfriend's name? Rebecca Fildes, who goes by @scalesfeathersandfur on TikTok, can explain what it really feels like, as she experienced it herself on her D-day. So far, her video, shared in July 2025, has garnered over 35k views online.

As the couple stood facing each other, the wedding officiant asked the groom if he accepted the lady as his lawful wedded wife. Now, the real goof-up occurred when, instead of Rebecca Sarah Joan Qureshi, the actual name of the bride, the groom, Andrew, said, "Sarah" — his ex-girlfriend's name. The groom was clearly nervous; hence, he made a mistake that had everyone at the wedding, including his bride, laughing. Andrew realized his blunder and immediately corrected himself, giving a truly unforgettable wedding moment.

According to Newsweek, Andrew and Rebecca met in their hometown village shop in Harlington, and their friendship soon blossomed into a love affair. The two are quite different from each other; in fact, they're the prime examples of 'opposites attract.' "I'm a lot more outgoing and sociable, and Andi is more introverted and sensible," Rebecca said. Moving on, she also recalled the wedding 'oops' moment and said, "He didn't even realize he'd left 'Rebecca' out. I told him, and he said, 'I'm so sorry; I was so nervous that I'd do something wrong.' We laughed about it."

Meanwhile, reacting to the video, @jesshughes301 commented, "To be fair, I think he just got HER name in the wrong order due to anxiety. He looks besotted with her." Similarly, a user who goes by @lola said, "Just a reminder, Princess Diana got Charles' names in the wrong order at the altar. Things like this happen!" Yes, that's right! Mistakes are really inevitable and can be made by royalty, too. According to several media reports, despite proper preparation, Princess Diana and King Charles' wedding didn't go as planned. Well, Diana accidentally referred to her groom, whose full name is Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, as Prince Philip Charles.

But wait! That wasn't the end of goof-ups. King Charles also did something that grabbed everyone's attention. Well, he mistakenly offered Diana "thy goods" instead of the more traditional "my worldly goods," flipping the meaning of the wedding vows. On the other hand, another person on the platform, @nala_nala001, said, "I wouldn't laugh to hear the name of his ex-girlfriend. I would cancel the wedding; that's a big red flag!" @stephanieblasyak80 wrote, "It's her middle name, though. It would be different if it were a completely different name, but to me, this looks like he just flubbed repeating words because he was nervous." @april pointed out, "Ross and Rachael… I mean Emily moment!"

Mistake or not, it seems like a rather embarrassing way to start a marriage. Grooms, if you're reading this, better double-check your bride's full name before you walk down the aisle!
