The great-grandpa doesn't know the music or the rhythm of the song but even then, his lackluster singing is fun to watch.
The bond shared by grandparents and grandchildren is so special. The difference in perspective of the two generations meet in the middle and what comes out as a result is absolute fun. Recently, one great-grandpa went viral on social media for his adorable interaction with his great-grandchild. He was supposed to sing the popular children's rhyme "Baby Shark" to the kid, but he was totally unaware of how it should be crooned. The kid's grandmother, Cristalena Potvin–who goes by @cristalenap on TikTok–shared this heartening video on TikTok and it blew up with over 6.4 million views and nearly 700K likes.
Potvin often posts hilarious interactions with her 83-year-old dad. But this time, it was his poker-faced reading of the "Baby Shark" that had the family in stitches. Having no idea about the rhyme before, the old man read the words, "Daddy shark, doo doo doo doo doo," with no tune or whatsoever. What made it more cute was that the little kid even tried to correct him by singing the actual tune of "Baby Shark." But the great-grandpa got grumpy and said, "Don't talk. Y'all are trying to say the same thing. People make this up in their bio." He then proceeded to recite the verses and quipped, saying, "Mommy's got glasses too," pointing to the images in the book. The family was laughing so hard at the old man's adorable version of the children's song.
Thousands of comments poured in, with people expressing amusement and showering their love for the great-grandpa. "I never thought anything would wipe my memory clean of Baby Shark, but now I can't remember the tune. He is doing the Lord's work," commented @a_million_gold_stars. "This is totally how my papa would have read it to me if 'Baby Shark' was a thing when I was little," wrote @misstaylorrae. "I work at a daycare and I'm the youngest teacher there. So, all of my older coworkers call me when the kids want to sing 'Baby Shark'. 'Grace, they want 'Baby Shark'!' I don't know the words," commented @bbunny_530. "But can we give this grandpa a gold star for reading to his grandbaby? That's such a simple and important act," lauded @marsedogg1201.
@cristalenap We asked him to read "Baby Shark" and he has never heard of it. We were laughing so hard 😂 #babyshark #babysharkdoodoo ♬ original sound - Cristalena 🤍
Among the plethora of adoration that the grandpa received, some comments insisted that he listens to the actual "Baby Shark" song's tune. So, when @bunnerlunner commented, "Now you have to play him the song because he too needs it stuck in his head forever," Potvin decided to give us a glimpse of how that turned out. In the follow-up video, the great-grandpa can be seen attentively watching the "Baby Shark" video on the phone.
When Potvin asked her dad if he realized it was a different tune, the old man replied, "I don't know. I never heard it before." When his daughter laughed about how he sang it wrong, he said, "I don't think anything like that's funny. Some people must be hurting for funnies, huh?" He then mocked his daughter for making fun of him and joked about how this children's song became popular because many mommies were watching it. "No, Dad, everyone knows 'Baby Shark'," said Potvin and the old man simply replied, "I never did. Way before my time."
@cristalenap Replying to @Bunnerlunner He doesnt know what's so funny 😂 #babyshark #babysharkdoodoo ♬ original sound - Cristalena 🤍
