This whole pandemic-lockdown situation put a real wrench in Bobbe Windham's schedule. Due to the global health crisis and the subsequent stay-at-home orders, the 87-year-old hadn't been able to visit her hairdresser of 30 years for her weekly appointments and it took quite a toll on her usually fly style game. Fortunately, Bobbe's gem of a grandson Matthew Stewart was more than happy to become a part-time hairdresser for his beloved grandmother and gave her a spa day where she was treated like the absolute queen she is.
The 35-year-old from Destin, Florida, had the internet going "aww" after he uploaded a video of the deluxe spa day he set up for his grandmother. Speaking to CafeMom, Stewart revealed that he has always shared a close bond with Bobbe and that the two of them even lived together for four years before he started to travel for work. "We have a very close relationship and love each other very much," he said, adding that his grandmother is "more like a mother to me than a grandmother."
"I spent much of my childhood with her and my grandfather," Stewart revealed. "I guess you could say we're a pretty good team." When it comes to grandma-grandson pairs, Stewart and Bobbe really are the dream team. The pair have taken the internet by storm with their hilarious and unbelievably adorable chemistry. In fact, Grandma Bobbe is to be credited for Stewart's success on TikTok where he has 1.1 million followers, most of which he gained after a video of her forcing him to take money for gas went viral on the platform.
Ever since then, Bobbe has had a loyal fan base across social media platforms who "know how much she loves her hair," said Stewart. Speaking of the "Quarantine Beauty Shop" video, he explained that his grandmother "goes to the beauty shop once a week to get a wash-and-fresh fluff." She was devastated when her trusted salon had to close due to the pandemic and so her beloved grandson picked up the hairdryer and got to work to cheer her up.
"I believe she said I could do it because I have watched Patty [her hairdresser of 30 years] do her hair many times, or maybe it was just because she wanted her head scratched...," he joked. Grandma Bobbe's deluxe spa day featured the complete salon experience with everything from washing to blow-drying to curling and even mimosas. The video quickly went viral again with more than a million people watching the pair and praising Stewart's incredible gesture. "I've had tons of people send me messages saying how much they miss their grandparents and seeing her brings back good memories," he revealed.
"I've also had messages saying they wish my grandmother was their grandmother." Stewart added that he hopes his gesture will encourage others to reach out to their grandparents. "Our grandparents need us," he said. "Even just a phone call can make their day. They're not going to be here forever, so we better spend as much time with them while they are still here." As for those who do not have someone like Grandma Bobbe in their lives, Stewart welcomes them to consider themselves a part of his family. "She has built a following of people who truly seem like a social media family," he explained. "She said she wants to adopt all her followers, so she's OUR grandma now."
