The mom kept filming her parents as they kept missing the hints about her pregnancy during family dinner.
Pregnancy and gender reveal ceremonies have become as important as the birthdays of a child before it even arrives. Parents worldwide find innovative ways to crack the big news to the rest of their family members, where they have to figure out if the couple is having a boy or a girl. But sometimes things do not go according to the plan and everything dissolves in a hilarious round of confusion. A mom from Canada, Lee Buona–who goes by @lee_buona on Instagram–shared a wholesome video of her and her husband trying to do the gender reveal to her parents. But they clearly missed the obvious hints around them.
In the video, Buona films her mom and dad, Beverley, 70, and Roger, 82, sitting at the dining table, enjoying a meal while their grandson walks around wearing a T-shirt printed with the word "brother" on it. Buona calls for her parents to pay attention to what her toddler is wearing and even instructs her son Oakland to do the same. "Say, 'Grandma, grandpa, what do you think of my new outfit?'" Buona speaks to her son from behind the camera. But nothing seemed to work for a while and the elderly couple failed to join the dots.
"Look at that outfit!" Roger, who is eating dinner, exclaims and claps his hands together. Beverley also joins in to applaud 19-month-old Oakland for how well he had learned to walk around. Buona captures her husband Alex in the frame, who can be seen smiling and rolling his eyes dramatically. He jokes that Buona probably has to keep filming this video forever because her parents can't catch onto the hint any sooner. All of a sudden, Buona has an idea and asks her son to sit on his grandpa's lap.
Once Oakland is up on Roger's lap, Buona questions her father to observe Oakland's outfit and say what he thinks about it. But Buona's mother cuts in and compliments the toddler by saying that he looks "beautiful." Giggling, Alex has been losing his patience and he dives in to pick up Oakland and place him on the table so his in-laws can get an even better look. "Maybe you should take a look at his sweater," Alex suggests. "What does it say?" Beverley squints and asks. "I can't read. It's all folded over!" Alex pushes his son closer to his in-laws and then everything finally clicks.
"Really!?" Beverley gasps. "Oh my God! Congratulations!" She jumps up enthusiastically and hugs her pregnant daughter, but Roger still appears confused. Thankfully, it takes him a couple of extra seconds to figure things out as he slams his hand on the table and realizes that his daughter is pregnant with a daughter. "You should see the five-minute unedited video!" Buona spoke to TODAY and revealed. "My mom is normally so observant. I thought she would see it immediately and start crying and lose her mind. My dad is classically oblivious. One time, my mom dyed her hair red and he didn't notice for like two weeks."

In another video, they even did a gender reveal to Oakland as well by printing onesies and helping him unbox them. "I kept asking Oakland if he thought the baby was a boy or a girl and he kept answering the same way. No matter how many different ways I asked. I know probably it's a fluke, but there's something magical about children's intuition and thinking of the connection Oakes already has to this little one growing inside me. I think it's possible he did know about the baby the world is full of magical things like that!" Buona wrote in the caption. The Vancouver-based couple will be welcoming their second child in May 2024.
