This grandma had the perfect idea to ensure her granddaughter didn't forget to take the salad home.
Most grandchildren know that visiting their grandparents usually means being spoiled, especially when it comes to food. Many grandmothers love making sure their grandkids leave with full bellies and healthy meals. But let’s be honest—salads often get overlooked, even when they’re served right in front of us. That’s why one grandma came up with a clever trick to ensure her granddaughter eats her greens. Nikki—who goes by @nikkibari on TikTok—shared a short video showing how her grandma makes sure she doesn’t forget to take the salad home after a visit.
"My grandma told me to put my keys in the fridge so I don't forget to take salad home with me. She said it's what her friends do. The old really are wise," the text overlay on her video reads. Nikki opens the refrigerator door to reveal her car keys placed alongside a neatly packed pouch of salad. It is probably a great way for her grandma to remember certain things she forgets due to aging and it's a trick that will remind Nikki to take the salads home every time she goes to fetch her car keys. The TikTok community applauded the grandma's effective trick and left positive comments.
@crossedvand recalled, "I remember my dad would do this as a kid and I'd take his keys out like, 'Silly dad, he left his keys in the fridge?' And put them on the counter for when he walked out. I wonder how many times he forgot his lunch." @kh41267 suggested, "I tie my keys to my laptop bag so I don't forget it when I leave for work. I can confirm this trick works!" @ryancasaray lamented, "I'd forget where my keys were, then be so relieved to find my keys I'd forget about the salad." @megpie20 commented, "I used to tease my mum for doing things like this. Now at my ripe old age of 38, I understand completely." @eve.roni added, "My dad does this with his wallet and when I was little and didn't understand that he did it so he wouldn't forget something. I just thought he was growing old and getting senile."
Just like Nikki's grandma, there is another grandma who has gained popularity on the internet with her little tips and tricks that aim to make our lives easier. Barbara Costello, who is famously known as Babs and @brunchwithbabs on Instagram, shared a video on how to keep food items and the house free of bugs during summer. "Did your mother ever tell you the secret ingredient to be bug-free all summer long?" she asks her viewers in the video. "It's cinnamon."
"Use ground cinnamon to keep maggots, flies and critters out of your trash cans. Just sprinkle a light layer at the bottom and don’t forget the lid. Just a soft sprinkle. Bye-bye, raccoons," Costello further explains. "Just place a couple of cinnamon sticks in your fruit bowl and you will be fruit-fly-free all summer long," she noted. "Cinnamon naturally contains eugenol, an aromatic compound commonly found in traditional insect repellants," she further wrote in her caption, explaining that sprinkling cinnamon can also keep maggots and other critters at bay.
