The grandmother might not have approved of her boyfriend at first, but she is slowly changing her opinions about him.
People often hope the partner they have chosen for themselves is loved and accepted by their family. But when you have an Asian grandma to impress, the task of making your loved one likable to them becomes even more difficult. At least that is obvious from the videos posted by travel content creators Claire and Peter. They shared a bunch of popular short videos on their joint YouTube page @claireandpeter, where they can be seen alongside Claire's grandmother.
The title of the video reads, "Grandma changes her mind on my boyfriend." In the video, her grandma looks pretty stoic and gives a judgemental gaze at Claire's non-Asian boyfriend, Peter. But as one clip transitions into another, we can see the Asian granny changing her attitude toward Peter and growing more comfortable around him. There is a vast difference in Grandma's facial expression and body language between the first week of meeting Peter and the third week of being around him.
By the time she had known Peter for the third week, the elderly woman could be seen flashing a smile at Peter and even giving him a warm hug as they celebrated Christmas together. However, the traveling couple is not there to stay for long and is about to set off on their next adventure. So, as Peter and Claire are about to leave, her grandma hugs him and even walks up to the fences to wave them goodbye as she looks visibly sad. Claire only proved that Asian parents and grandparents might be hard to impress, but once they accept you in the family, they treat you like their own child.

In one of the first few videos featuring her grandma and Peter, she showed why her grandma might have taken her sweet time to warm up to Peter. Peter can be sipping on some sort of alcoholic drink, whereas, the rest of Claire's family, who were dining out with them, opt for plain water. Her grandma gives him a stern judgemental look and says nothing. In a third video, Claire records everyone else at the table finishing their meals and leaving their plate clean, but Peter leaves behind bits and pieces of food littered all over his plate. As one can guess, Claire's grandma silently disapproved of it.

Claire has also popped an interesting question to her grandfather in a separate video where she asks him if he likes her boyfriend. "Do you like Peter even though he is not Chinese?" Claire asks. Her grandpa answered that his nationality doesn't matter and that he likes Peter very much, but he wouldn't have liked him if he was a smoker. Grandpa mentions that he also likes Peter because he loves Chinese food and listens to Claire. He adds that if he wasn't a good listener, then there would have been a dispute between the couple, plus he supports him for being on YouTube on Claire as well.

Even the online folks loved how Claire's grandparents welcomed Peter and eventually accepted him. @rachealtackett940 wrote, "She is the sweetest and reminds me of my grandma. Grandma's have this comfort about them. They are like your favorite fuzzy, warm blanket in person. We need to cherish our grandparents." @georgethepotat0 commented, "The classic curve of grandparent approval. First, they give them the side eye treatment then they cry when both of you leave. Your nana is adorable." @honda197056 mentioned, "That is so adorable. She has me missing my little momma. That's what my older cousin called her first when we were children. A little woman with a big heart."
