The grandmother gasped in surprise upon seeing the heartfelt gift her granddaughter had planned for her special day.
Weddings are extremely special, not only for the bride and groom but also for their loved ones who have seen them grow. The day is filled with moments that will last a lifetime. One such memorable moment was shared by bride Laura Whatley, who goes by @laurawhatley6 on TikTok. In a heartwarming video, she surprised her grandmother—whom she calls her "best friend"—by wearing the matron's 64-year-old wedding dress for a special first dance with her grandfather.
In the video, Laura is seen crying as she dances with her grandfather and grandmother in the elegant vintage gown at her wedding at the Oxwich Bay Hotel in Swansea, U.K., this past May. The idea for the tribute came while Laura was shopping for her own wedding dress. "My grandma was telling me all about hers and mentioned it was up in her attic," Whatley said. "So my mom came up with the idea that we should go and find it when she is out and see what it's like," she told Newsweek.

In one of the three wedding videos shared on her page, Whatley is seen slipping into her grandmother's dress with the help of her mother. In the next clip, guests, along with her grandmother, wait eagerly for the bride’s entrance as the host announces it. The grandmother, sitting and admiring her granddaughter, is soon overcome with realization when she sees the dress. "That's my wedding dress!" she gasps, her jaw dropping in surprise.
The bride then proceeds to the stage with her grandfather to perform their dance. Overcome with emotion, Laura can't hold back her tears. She extends her hand to her grandmother, who is escorted to the stage by someone, and together the three share a heartfelt dance. The video ends with the whole family embracing each other and dancing, creating an unforgettable moment of love and connection.
Viewers quickly recognized the lasting significance of the moment for the bride, with many taking to the comment section to share their thoughts on the special dance.
