Grandpa gave the bride his late wife’s rosemary — then whispered something to it that made her hug him even tighter

For most grandparents, living to witness a grandchild walk down the aisle is one of the rarest blessings life could offer. So when they find a way to share that milestone with the love they left behind makes it unforgettable. So when Katrina Jarrous (@katrina.jarrous) wrapped her late grandmother's rosary around her bridal bouquet as she wanted to keep a piece of family history close. What she didn’t realize was how much this would mean to the man standing beside her. A clip she later shared on Instagram captured a special moment between her and her grandfather. The video, posted on August 18, 2026, has since received over 123,000 likes.

The man in a black tuxedo

Before making her grand entrance, Jarrous ensured her family legacy remained front and center by fastening an heirloom to her white floral arrangement. She wrapped her late grandmother's rosary around her bouquet to keep her close throughout the ceremony. As she later reflected, the nesting heirloom led to "one of the most special moments with my grandfather." The moment she was talking about came when her grandfather, who was dressed in a black tuxedo, stepped forward for a picture with her.

'Can you believe it?'

However, before even getting a picture taken, he noticed his wife's rosary wrapped around the flowers. Pausing in that moment, he then gently reached out his hands to hold the beads of the rosary and leaned down to kiss them. He then whispered something while holding the rosary. Although at the time only Jarrous was able to hear what her grandfather said, as it made her shed a tear alongside him, she later revealed it through the video. "The baby is getting married, can you believe it?" her grandfather said, as if he were talking to his late wife.

Standing together in reflection

Following the heartwarming gesture, the grandfather stood proudly by Jarrous, taking in the reality of the approaching ceremony. They then posed for some pictures before it was time for Jarrous to walk down the aisle and marry the man of her dreams. It's safe to say that even though there might've been several significant moments throughout the ceremony, this would be right on top of them, if not the best moment of the entire wedding.

The bond between grandparents and grandchildren

The entire video highlights the special bond people share with their grandparents. According to a Pew Research survey, almost 83% of Americans aged 65 or older have grandchildren. Of these people, 28% say that one of the biggest advantages of their age was being able to spend more time with their families, with 25% explicitly saying that the best part was getting to spend time with their grandchildren. Meanwhile, the next most popular answer was having financial security, with 14% reporting it as their best part about growing up.

As for the people, they were touched by the beautiful gesture by Jarrous and also by her grandfather's reaction. @luv_ariasu commented, "Awwwnn this is so precious. Wishing your grandpa a long, happy, and beautiful life filled with good health, love, and countless joyful moments. May he always be surrounded by family and happiness." Meanwhile, @hunterdepop wrote, "I cried at the lovely gentleman and his loss, and how beautiful the bride is, and hoping her man treats her right for the rest of her life. Amen. Have a good life ahead, girlie."
