'From my angle, you can see it sinking in the middle...' she said.

Gordon Ramsay, the celebrity chef, may be ruthless to the world, but when it comes to his mum, he turns back into the little boy who learned to cook in her kitchen. In 2005, when Ramsey challenged his mom, Helen, for a baking face-off, she reclaimed her kitchen crown with savage precision. A part of that particular episode was shared on YouTube, The F Word (@thefword).

His mom had already taken her apple pie out of the oven, and she was all ready to present it to the judges, but Ramsey was still waiting on his dessert. As soon as he was done, he took his apple pie out and placed it beside her mom's dish on the table. "I have to say, presentation-wise, yours looks nice, but doesn't blow me away," the Michelin-star chef said. His mom, however, who was observing his dish in utter silence, finally asked, "Is that cooked in the middle?" Surprisingly, when Ramsey checked, he realized his mom was bang-on; his apple pie was half-cooked. Helen couldn't stop laughing, and rightfully so, because it was perhaps the first time somebody could embarrass her son, that too, in something he always excelled in. Ramsey put his apple pie back in the oven and asked his mom how she knew that it wasn't cooked properly. In response, Helen said, "From my angle, you can see it sinking in the middle, Titanic." After baking his dessert for a little longer, Ramsey got it out of the oven and placed it on the table. Looking at the apple pie, his mom said, "They both look lovely, don't they? I think mine looks just a little bit better." In the end, though Gordon Ramsey won the competition, his mother definitely stole the show.
Ramsey loves his mom, and in fact, his passion for cooking stemmed from her. Notably, when he was a child, his mother worked as a cook, a cleaner, and a night nurse to make ends meet. "I grew up with my mum having three jobs. I grew up watching my mum work her arse off, and I grew up with the outmost respect for my mum," he told the Scotsman. Moreover, the celebrity chef credited his mom for his tireless work ethic.
Meanwhile, reacting to the episode, @mcmaizen commented, "All I see is a world-class chef who loves his mother. Gordon has a good side to him, it seems." @randolfvelasco5589 wrote, "Now I know where he got his 'tenacity' in the kitchen — from his most gentle mom! Well, she looks so gentle to me! Lol." Similarly, @tareqalqallaf9527 said, "No matter how good you can cook, you can't beat your mom."

On the other hand, @ace-ke7fq said, "That was so sweet. You're fortunate alone, Gordon, by just having a mother. And the 'love you's' share. Well, she taught you well." @philbateman1989 commented, "All I learned was that Gordon Ramsay can't out-cook his own mother. If she hadn't called him out, he would have served an uncooked dessert. Sorry, but unless your mother or father is a professional in the same field as you, if you can't outperform them in said field, you're not good at it." @jamesmichaeldoyle wrote, "I lost my shit when he was putting it back in the oven and called her a smartass. Way to go, Mum Ramsay! She spotted it before it was even cut into. No wonder the man can cook; his mom knows her shit. Not everyone gets a head start like that."
