Rachel Lynch (@thegirliegirls) confronted her daughter, Evelyn, when she saw her lost in a thought spiral. That's when she learned that her daughter was beginning to suspect her grandpa of being the real Santa — and her reasoning is surprisingly convincing. "Mumma, what if Grandpa is Santa?" she asked her mom. The little girl then went on to list all the similarities between him and Santa, in an adorable video posted on their shared Instagram profile on December 27.

Her grandpa was an engineer, which led Evelyn to ponder over Santa's profession, and she realized he, too, was an engineer — of toys. Moreover, she told her mom that her grandpa looks a lot like Santa Claus and that he is just as magical as the Christmas angel. "He has white hair and a tiny bit of white beard, and he does ho ho ho exactly like in films," Evelyn pointed out. Lynch's daughter also recalled how her granddad knew her doll, Rosie, by her name, even though she'd never introduced him to her. Later, the girl laughed as she mentioned her grandpa's "big belly" that was strikingly similar to that of Santa. Interestingly, Lynch played along and told her daughter how her dad would mostly be away from them, but whenever he returned, he would have snow on him. "What if he is Santa? God, I can't believe he is Santa," her daughter gasped.

Most kids grow up thinking that Santa Claus is real; in fact, they even write letters to him, hoping he will get them whatever they need for Christmas. A 2025 survey by YouGov found that 56% of parents with kids under the age of 18 think their children still believe in Santa Claus. In fact, 62% of respondents said they will pretend that Santa Claus visited their home on Christmas in front of their kids. Santa Claus is such an important aspect of the holiday season that more than half of the parents surveyed said they would let their kids hang up a stocking for Santa to fill, and also leave out cookies and milk for him. Likewise, for Evelyn, no one else but her grandpa was her Santa because he had every quality that someone expects from the real Santa Claus. He was so loving, knew her dolls by name, and of course, had a big belly that only made her doubt him even more.

Meanwhile, the beautiful video received an overwhelming response, leaving netizens in awe of the little girl's innocence. Reacting to it, @marij84937 commented, "I love how she just thinks that her grandpa is a magical person. She talks about him with so much love. He must be so amazing with her." @oulaalbaba wrote, "Her love for her grandad and her imagination are fighting for room in her tiny little body because they are SOOO BIG and so wonderful to see. Bless her loving heart and her brilliant mind."

Similarly, @kolormarie confessed, "I literally don’t want to fall in love, unless it’s with a man whose grandchildren will think of him as magically as she thinks of her abuelo." @naturebugk commented, "This is the most wonderful video. From the little girl in me, who believed in Santa for a VERY long time because the adults in her life worked so hard to keep the magic alive, to the little girl in front of you: you’re going to cherish this video when you’re in your 30s and Granda isn’t here anymore, and you’re going to be so, so, so glad your mom captured this moment for you."
