Losing someone dear can be very painful, and at the same time, it makes you feel helpless. Many struggle to cope with this vulnerability, but only a few are able to embrace it, wishing the best for their loved one’s departing soul. A family from Oregon chose to make peace with their dog taking her last breaths. A nine-year-old girl bid farewell to Madison, her dog, in the most wholesome manner which was shared by her parent, Chris Miles (@doublenickel_55) on TikTok.

In the widely circulating video, Chris’s daughter Jaden can be seen reading a goodbye card dedicated to Madison. The ailing canine was reportedly diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2021, and she wasn’t expected to make it to Christmas. Jaden, the youngest member of the family, was extremely close to the dog. The Miles family also used to call their dog Madi, described as a “joyful” canine who “defied the odds” by living longer than expected.

“She was deteriorating. However, she still had so much love and joy. We didn't know how to live without her. She was my wife and I's first kid, really,” Newsweek quoted Chris as saying. The TikTok video showed the preteen wearing an all-black outfit, reading a "goodbye" letter and showering love on her. Jaden, seeming emotional, was rubbing Madi’s head, who in return was reciprocating her emotions. After reading the letter, she goes on to show it to her beloved dog.

Their vulnerability was quite clearly visible, yet Jaden wanted to spend her final happy moments with the dog. The young owner planted a kiss on Madi’s forehead and hugged her in the latter part of the 29-second clip. “My daughter wrote Madi a goodbye letter before her last vet visit. This broke my heart,” Chris explained through the caption. In 2009, the McMinnville resident’s wife Danielle brought Madison home from a bachelorette party when she was a puppy.

“A girl in Lincoln City had a sign that said ‘FREE DOG.’ So, Dani brought her home,” he told the outlet. Since then, the dog has remained with the family of six as their favorite member, till her last breath. Madi consistently impacted their evolving lives over the following fifteen years. “We always loved the name Madison. We originally saved it for our first kid … but we fell in love with this dog. The vet thought her birth month was in May, also my birth month, so we named her Madison May Miles,” Chris added.

The dog owner called it the “saddest day” of his life when he had to break the devastating news. The comments section of the video was filled with mourning, with people extending their sympathies to the family. Among them, @crystalvetkos24 wrote, “Sending you some prayers of comfort as you navigate this loss! She’ll always be around, just not physically.” “Oh my goodness, breaking all our hearts as well. Madi, you are and always were deeply loved by so many people, my dear,” @jemjem_jem added.
