Mathew Lewis-Carter and Lawrence Price (@thesecretlifeofdads on Instagram), two girl dads, sat in the Lucky Saints Pub in London with ten other fathers to learn a new skill. Two weeks later, on March 7, thirty-five dads walked in for the very same reason — to learn hairstyling skills for their daughters. The event called "Pints and Ponytails" saw a bunch of adoring fathers come together to learn something that society often labels as gender-specific. Indy100 reports, "the two-and-a-half-hour workshop was packed with hands-on learning." Without shame, and with hearts full of love and excitement, the dads embarked on a mission to be the best stylists for their little girls.
This was only the second time that Carter and Prince had organized such a special event, but they were overwhelmed by the response. Thirty-five fathers walked into the pub, determined to learn hairstyles to try on their daughters. "It's a testament to you as dads wanting to be here to learn a new skill, to create a deeper connection with your daughter," Carter announced, encouraging all the girl dads.
Each attendee was given a beer pint and a mannequin head, along with the right tools required to learn different hairstyles. The workshop had a female instructor who patiently taught dads various hairstyles. All participants looked completely engaged — and why wouldn’t they? After all, a father will do anything to make his princess smile. From French braids to sophisticated bows, these fathers left with skills to completely transform their daughters' mornings.
Times have changed, and raising kids is no longer solely a mother’s duty. In fact, more fathers of late have come forward to learn new things and share parenting duties. For instance, The Growth Hub spoke to 5,000 employed dads and found that, despite work pressure, 74% of fathers wish to embrace equal parenting. However, men (2 out of 10) who don't shy away from taking parenting responsibilities said they often encounter questions like 'Where’s your wife?', indicating it’s not their job to look after their kids. Likewise, a Pew Research Center found that though a majority of women are single-handedly fulfilling all childcare responsibilities, fathers are also trying to match their involvement. While 53% of moms said disciplining children is shared equally between them and their partner, 51% of fathers agreed to it. "...but while 36% of mothers say they do more, just 16% of fathers say their spouse or partner does more in this regard," the study revealed.

Meanwhile, reacting to the wholesome concept, @cfairhurst166 commented, "This is amazing. Never seen anything like this. It actually makes me smile that this happens. As a dad of one daughter, I would love to know how to do this. Always a big sticking point in a morning with my daughter and wife. Well done, Pints and Ponytails." @iamkatieovery shared, "This is incredible! After my parents divorced, my dad was determined to do my hair. So in 1989, with no tutorials, and I was only 8, so I didn’t have a huge clue, between us we nailed a few ponytails and plaits." Similarly, @burning_bruns pointed out, "I love these dads for showing up, but the shoutout goes out to all the moms who have been doing this for centuries."
