'For the same thing that Mommy has... a boyfriend,' she said.
Leaving home for personal and professional growth is an emotional but necessary step for many. While kids or their parents can never be fully ready for the transition, early conversations may make the process easier. On a related note, Melly Garcia (@melly.garcia22) caught her baby girl asking her dad how he'll feel when she moves out, and his response is truly priceless. Garcia posted the beautiful moment caught on their home security camera.
In 2023, the father and his little princess were busy coloring when the daughter asked, "Are you sad that when I am an adult, I am not gonna be here anymore?" Her father immediately asked, "What do you mean?" And that's when the conversation got serious. The girl said that when she's an adult, she would have to move out — something she had seen other people do around her. The father, who had his eyes fixed on the coloring sheet, kept asking where she would go, and his daughter finally revealed, "To a different home. The same thing that Mommy has... a boyfriend." The man was shocked beyond words and, for a moment, didn't know how to react. "What the hell? Who said you can have a boyfriend?" he asked. His daughter, quite smart for her age, justified it, saying she would have a boyfriend when she's an adult and move to a different house. Her father, who by now had gone back to coloring, dismissed her idea. "A girl dad's biggest nightmare. Thanks, Ring, for capturing moments like these," Garcia wrote in the caption.

The trend of young adults moving out of their parents' home wasn't something unusual until the pandemic hit. Due to job loss, financial instability, or closure of educational institutions, many moved back in with their parents. However, this was short-lived, as when the situation began improving, many young adults returned to independent living. Data from the Census Bureau's Current Population Survey revealed that the adults (18-29 years old) living at home rose from 42% in January 2020 to 49% in June 2020, but the percentage dropped back to 43% by October 2020.
Meanwhile, Garcia's post received an overwhelming response, especially from the 'girl dads.' For instance, @ozzt84 commented, "My daughter is 16, and she lives with me. I told her she could be with me until she's in her 30s because I'm not ready for this conversation." Echoing the sentiments, @cattperez13 said, "She wants the same love you show her, Mommy. And that, my sir, is showing her something." @cheyenne_scott_97 commented, "I know he wasn’t ready for this conversation, but I’ll be honest, it made my heart melt. Her saying, 'What Mommy has,' shows that y’all have a relationship that she looks up to. So sweet. You can only hope she finds that."
