Trust is the core of any relationship, and if it's broken, it can be difficult to rebuild. A woman who goes by u/peepeecheeto took to Reddit to share photos of her boyfriend texting a coworker whom he said he "wasn't into." When she asked to see their text messages, he only showed her the last text, but she found their entire conversation in his "Recently Deleted" folder and immediately contemplated breaking up with him. The post received 38,000 upvotes and 9,300 comments.

'If I was single...'

The woman's boyfriend had mentioned a "cute cashier" at work, but assured her he was not interested. However, when she asked for proof, their messages said something else. It began when the cashier left him a note in his locker, probably a confession and her number, and he texted her. When she asked him what he thought of her note, he responded, "Well, I was flattered, but I do have a girlfriend," followed by, "I do think you're pretty and very cool, so there's that." They bantered back and forth, and in one of his messages, he said, "If I was single, we would be hanging out." The cashier flirted right back, telling him to call her when he's single, and he said he would.

'Whatever I wanted?'

They continued their conversation, and she asked him to let him drive his car. He responded with "maybe," and that was when their conversation turned suggestive. The cashier admitted that even though she knew he had a girlfriend, she was selfish and wanted to hang out with him, to which he replied, "It's maybe a maybe." She got bolder and wrote back, "Maybe we could do whatever you want and have fun, but that's only a maybe."

He asked, "Whatever I wanted?" and she replied, "Yeah, pretty much whatever you want." When she suggested they hang out, he told her he had to think about it. A loyal boyfriend would have shut this conversation down several messages ago. The author admitted that she had no proof they had done anything, but the messages were enough to break her trust in him.

Non-physical cheating

Despite seeing the messages, the author was still confused whether he was cheating. PureWow conducted an informal poll on 60 anonymous respondents and found that 84% agreed that sending "suggestive" messages online was considered cheating. 21% also agreed that flirting with another person was considered cheating. If the man were truly not interested, he wouldn't be hinting at hanging out with her if he were single, or he wouldn't entertain the "call me when you're single" text.

'Not marriage material'

The majority of the comments advised the author to dump the man immediately. u/Capable_Front_7886 commented, "Girl, stand up please. He’s crying and thinking you’re going to leave because you should. Leave him. It’s only going to get worse. He will never change. Don’t listen to the crying, the begging, the pleas, and promises of changing. He won’t. Just pack up, get your ducks in a row, and leave. Let him flirt with his coworkers, and you make a good life for yourself." u/Apprehensive_Sun6282 added, "Homeboy over here isn’t putting down clear boundaries with women. Definitely not marriage material."
