Despite them being linked with 'situationships' and 'sneaky links,' Gen Z remains loyal

Gen Z are often accused of being too cautious, too picky, or too quick to question relationships. But the Body+Soul 2024 Sex Census in Australia suggests that their awareness around boundaries and emotional honesty may be doing them a favor. Despite the common idea that young people are less committed, the data offer a refreshing twist.

The study, which takes a deeper dive into the love lives of the Aussies, revealed many surprising stats. At a broader level, one in five Australians admitted to cheating on a partner, while over 40% said they had been cheated on. The survey also found that 5% of respondents were currently being unfaithful and 4% had cheated within the past year, including 5% of men and 3% of women.
However, perhaps the most unexpected one was the fact that Millennials are the most unfaithful generation, with nearly 22% admitting to cheating on their partner. In contrast, Gen Z was named as the most faithful generation, with only 16% of people from the generation attesting to cheating. The gap is especially notable because Millennials came out as the generation most likely to admit to infidelity, while Gen Z sat at the opposite end of the scale. This is, of course, a huge surprise for everyone, especially given the exposure that this generation gets through smartphones and other gadgets.

There are several more research studies that prove that Gen Z is much more mature and loyal than the older generations think. While the younger generation is often associated with terms like "situationships" and "sneaky links," they are surprisingly quite serious about love and least toxic. This comes to light after a recent study held by The Times, cited by The Fortune, with over 1,000 participants, revealed that 62% Gen Z and their friends don't commonly have one-night stands.
At the same time, only 23% admitted to casually hooking up. This, contrastingly, is quite different from the responses Times got back in 2004, when only 195 young people said they don't have one-night stands, and a whopping 78% admitted to going intimate on their first date.

Nonetheless, as impressive as it sounds, Body+Soul indicated taking this information with a pinch of salt. That's because different generations obviously have different definitions of cheating and infidelity. While acts like flirting or checking someone out might not count as cheating for Gen Zs, it might for Boomers and the Silent Generation. What's also worth noting is with whom the people are cheating. As it turns out, strangers lead the race with about 29% people cheating on their partner with them. Meanwhile, someone whom they already know comes in second with 24%, followed by work colleagues (23%), exes (15%), a partner's friend (8%), and their boss (7%).
