Their CEO, though stunned by his employee's leave request, couldn't help but commend the transparency.

Gen Z has been dynamically transforming the work sector with their revolutionary practices and beliefs. They’re more transparent, bold, honest, and to the point, and if you’re willing to adapt, it can work wonders. The co-founder and CEO of Knot Dating, Jasveer Singh, revealed one instance where his employee boldly asked for leave for an unexpected reason — a breakup. However, to the employer, it was something very impressive, and for the right reasons. He decided to commend the worker and the internet is inspired by the whole exchange.

Singh shared a picture of the leave request he received via email. “Got the most honest leave application yesterday. Gen Z doesn’t do filters!” he said. The message read, “I recently had a breakup and haven’t been able to focus on work. I need a short break. I’m working from home today. I’d like to take a leave from the 28th to the 8th.” Bizarre. Unreal. Bold. Confident. Surprising. So many words come to mind when you think of this employee who decided to come clean with a reason to get the leave fair and square. No faking an illness, no made-up excuses, just the plain truth out there. And that’s Gen Z for you.

According to Stanford Report, Roberta Katz, a former senior research scholar at Stanford’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS), revealed that this generation is out to transform the work culture with its ethics and mindset. Right from wanting dynamic growth, good energy and smart networking, the young people also prioritize their own well-being and values. Going to work doesn’t mean forgetting who they are and putting on a mask and becoming a robot for the next eight hours. To Gen Z, their mental health and efficiency are at peak priority and if work comes in the way of it, they will make sure something changes. For them, work is secondary; quality of life comes first.

That’s what this Knot Dating employee did — put his mental health before others. So when he unfortunately went through a breakup, he decided to be upfront about it. And that’s what his employer appreciated. Singh mentioned in a comment that he approved the leave without any hesitation. Many people were glad that the employee was able to be transparent and open with Singh. It reflected a healthy work relationship with the boss and is the kind many are on the lookout for. @tamasa_patra wrote, “Honestly, this is refreshing to read. The toll a breakup takes on a person is underrated. It's pretty difficult to go to work when your mind is in doldrums and there is persistent heartache.”

@SagarPurohit06 added, “Gen Z might not have everything figured out, but when it comes to work, they know their rights, speak up without fear, and refuse to tolerate nonsense.” @texasrunnerDFW remarked, “This is one of Gen Z’s best traits. And Gen Alpha, too. They are attuned and emotionally honest.” @oguzhankukackli noted, “Never say no to honesty like this. Wish my team were half as straightforward.”
