Having lived in different times might cause a drift in the way people from different generations think. Although disagreements might be a normal thing, sometimes people tend to cross a line. A Gen X woman, u/Nikongirl78, took to Reddit to share an incident where a boomer overstepped her boundaries and how she got back at him without really causing a huge scene at the place. The woman admitted that she had previously believed that the posts about boomers on various social platforms might be exaggerating their traits a little.

"I've been lurking around here for a while and laughing at the posts thinking 'It can't be that bad,' Karma proved me wrong," the 45-year-old shared. "I accompanied my friend to some appointments he had because they're in a city where I don't get to go to much. (He traded me waiting for him with the promise of shopping after)," the woman added for context. "Here I am minding my own business, surfing on my phone. Boomer walks up to the desk, LOUDLY announces his information and takes a seat right across from me." The woman looked up at the boomer regardless, smiled politely and went back to using her phone.

"He then just as LOUDLY starts explaining: 'Ya know that's what I hate about you young people nowadays,'" the woman revealed. She was quite confused at the man's accusation and inquired what he meant by that. "That. (Points to my phone) Everyone is on those damn things now. No one talks to anyone anymore," the man said. "Maybe, but I was also taught not to talk to strangers so..." the woman responded. The boomer still continued complaining about how everyone always kept using their phones these days. "Who? I'm the only one here," the woman questioned the angry man. "Exactly! We should be talking," the man went on. "Sir, I don't know you. Why would I talk to you?" she retaliated eventually.

"He's now wandering around the waiting room, grumbling LOUDLY and talking to anyone who comes in. Like, I get you're probably lonely but that's not how you make friends," the GenX woman pointed out. People took to the comments section of the post to support the woman and express their opinions on the incident. u/sassychubzilla commented, "'See, the problem with you people is you don't respect that I am a man and I'm older than you and you're supposed to be a captive audience. You make me question my importance when you ignore me and I'm uncomfortable. You're mean. Nobody likes you because you're mean.' Of course, there are only a couple of brain cells in his head frantically rubbing themselves together so I imagine there are fewer words in his inner dialogue and more illustrations."

u/ilanallama85 shared, "It’s so disingenuous, anyone who remembers a time before cell phones should remember that every waiting room, bus and subway car was full of people avoiding eye contact by burying their heads in their books/newspapers/magazines/knitting/etc. No one has ever 'talked' in those places. Not anyone that anyone likes anyway. So either he’s lying or he’s always been a miserable busybody who can’t occupy himself for five minutes." u/Jsmith2127 expressed, "My MIL is in her early 80s. When she goes to appointments, she brings her Kindle, reads and minds her own business. Maybe this guy needs a Kindle."
