Chas was glad her friend was alive but did not like how she reacted

Not hearing from a friend you're constantly in touch with may seem bizarre, but how long do you wait before you start wondering if something is seriously wrong? Chas (@luxacee on Threads), too, had a friend she talked to daily at the same time every morning. But one day, the friend just stopped replying. Worried, Chas called and texted her repeatedly but received no response for two weeks. Worried something bad had happened, she called the police for a welfare check. When the officers told her there was no response, Chas called her friend again, and surprisingly, she answered, fuming with anger. The post was shared on September 20, 2026, and it has received over 13,000 likes.
After two weeks of no responses, Chas drove by her friend's house on September 19. She noticed her friend's car was parked outside, while the lights inside her house were on. Chas knocked, but nobody answered. She checked with the neighbors, but no one had seen her for the last three days. Worried, Chas drove off but turned around to check one more time and noticed that her house's lights had been turned off, while the TV was still on. Chas was anxious about her friend. She even texted her boss to ask if she came to work, but "he couldn’t give me any information on whether she has or has not been to work," she added. Feeling like there was no other way to contact her friend, she called the police to do a welfare check.
On September 20, Chas received a text from her friend asking if she had sent people to her house. This was after the police told her that nobody responded during their welfare check. Suspicious, Chas called to see if it was really her friend texting her. Chas wrote, "Why did she answer the phone yelling at me?" Apparently, her friend had been sick for days and hadn't talked to other people either. Chas was glad her friend was alive but did not like how she reacted. "I’m hurt by how everything unfolded, but I still care about her, and I’ll still pray for her," she added.
Nowadays, most people prefer texts over calls, but not everyone is a fan of text messages. A study conducted by Viber, cited by Study Finds, found that 31% said texting was a source of everyday stress. Similarly, 1 in 5 struggled to check their messages, and 1 in 9 ignored them. The study also found that 31% of respondents believed nobody should feel pressured to respond within a specific time limit. Meanwhile, 23% agreed people should respond within an hour, while 20% said that four hours was a good response window, and 16% agreed on a day. Now, if we relate it to Chas's experience, it shows just how complicated the silence around a simple unanswered text can become.
People in the comments shared similar incidents. @britaneejeanphotography commented, "I withdraw into myself when I’m overly stressed and overwhelmed, and I have one friend who has never given up. She’ll text me, and if I don’t respond, she’ll text my husband to make sure I’m ok. I’m so thankful for her undying love for me. I could never react like your friend did." @thecherylanne shared, "My friend wasn’t responding for three days. I did a welfare check. Found him lifeless on the bathroom floor. I’m traumatised and heartbroken all at once. You did the right thing. Always check on your friends. Sending you hugs."
