It's no secret that Americans love McDonald's, and now, one of their former chef is revealing a simple hack to make your McDonald’s breakfast even better. Former McDonald’s chef Mike Haracz (@chefmikeharacz) has revealed how adding one ingredient can take your breakfast to the next level in a TikTok video. Titled “greatest McDonald’s breakfast hack ever,” it's been viewed more than 13 million times already. Mike Haracz explained why the type of egg can make or break your breakfast.

Eggs are a big deal at McDonald’s, and the stats back that up. The company website stats state that, in the U.S. alone, the chain cracks up to 2 billion eggs every year. Behind the scenes, these tiny eggs move on to live different destinies. The “round” eggs are cracked, poured into metal ring molds placed directly on the griddle, and flattened into round disks. Others go through a little bit more pressure, which gives them a springier and rubbery texture, before they are folded like pamphlets. These folded eggs often stick out of the buns, so when someone eats a biscuit sandwich or a McMuffin, they have to press their hands against the buns and squeeze the sandwich as they eat.

In his videos, Haracz discusses the various egg options in a particular dish: a bagel sandwich. According to The Sun, bagel sandwiches were quietly pulled off the menus in 1999, but public demand compelled them to reintroduce them in 2025. Slathered with butter and McDonald’s Breakfast Sauce and topped with folded eggs, American cheese, and a protein garnish, the breakfast sandwich continues to remain a showstopper among fans. Haracz believes that the experience of this breakfast sandwich could be enhanced or diminished with a simple choice: the egg type.

The worst type of egg one can choose for the breakfast sandwich is the “folded egg,” the McDonald's worker revealed. The folded egg, he explained, comes “frozen, already cooked.” In a different video on the same topic, he calls this egg “hot garbage” because the chefs really just microwave it and put it on the grill. He suggested asking the chefs to swap the folded egg with the “round egg” instead, the same egg that comes on the English muffins. Scrambled eggs are another good idea, he added.

“The big breakfast scrambled egg is made fresh in the restaurant from liquid egg. They cook it up, hold it in the UHC, and is fluffier. It is more flavorful. It is more buttery. It fills up that bagel sandwich better than that really cheap little folded egg thing that they give you,” Haracz explained.

In the comments section, viewers reached out to share their own experiences with ordering breakfast sandwiches at McD’s and choosing different types of eggs. Many supported the preference of “round” or “scrambled” eggs over “folded eggs.”

@brinabells, however, hesitates in choosing round eggs because every time she ordered them, they came with eggshells. @timothyboswinkle said they prefer neither and would rather have poached eggs on the biscuit sandwich. Others suggested ordering a breakfast sausage on the side and bathe the sandwich in it. Meanwhile, one viewer, and probably several others, doesn’t care what type of egg is inside the sandwich as long as the sandwich is from McDonald’s. “I am eating it while driving in the car, I don’t care this much,” remarked @KTownGal.
