When staying at a hotel, everyone has their own unique habits or things they like to check to ensure a comfortable and secure stay. These routines may include searching for hidden cameras or inspecting the cleanliness of the bathrooms. A former hotel manager recently shared some valuable insights and tips on what to check when staying at a hotel, and her suggestions are quite reasonable and sensible.

Melly—who goes by @melly_creations on TikTok—a travel vlogger and hospitality evaluator, shared how she used to ensure that the rooms were cleaned well and the laundry was washed before the guests arrived as a manager but she knows that's not the case with every hotel manager.

She listed three things she always does when staying at a hotel. First, she checks if the air vents of the air conditioner are clean. "I check if these vents are clean and they are," said Melly while checking the duct of the hotel she was staying in. She went on to make sure that the beds are clean. "I always check the bed for bed bugs. This one has a zip-up case, I unzipped it and looked," said Melly.

Lastly, she talked about the top cover of the bed, "An overlay cover like this or the one that straps around in the bottom, I never sleep with this. I'm sorry to tell you they do not get washed once someone stays in a hotel." The video has garnered about 2.2 million views. It is captioned, "What I do when staying at a hotel. Even though star hotels. they are sometimes the worst with cleanliness." Many people were happy to get to know these tips. @vanessaevelunh commented, "It’s literally insane to me that the top layer is not washed after every customer." @katywelltho wrote, "I'm going to need more of these."

@futureiseverything expressed, "When I worked at the holiday years ago they only washed the big covers once a month that’s why I go to a hotel I strip the bed and don’t use them." @kyspeak said, "Former hotel housekeeper. Can confirm all of this and the proceeding videos." @justinsheps shared, "Don’t forget to turn the fridge down! I swear they keep the fridge warm haha." @quinnmariah pointed out, "Incredible that you pay a couple of hundred and you need to do what the hotel is supposed to do."

In a follow-up video, Melly talks about why she never uses hotel coffee machines or refillable shampoo conditioner bottles. "On top of the fact that I've seen other things being brewed even though the housekeeper may rinse it out or wash the outside, the tube never gets cleaned," said the former hotel manager.

She continues, "I will never use these refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles in the tub that are like this where people can put anything in it. I've seen Nair and God knows what else in it." People were shocked to know these things about hotels.

@midwestbeth commented, "New fears unlocked." @becoming_bailey said, "I’m getting to the point where I just need to bring my own house on vacation." @elizanic0le expressed, "Thinking about last week when I risked my life drinking from the Keurig and used the shampoo/conditioner with the removable top." Some more users chimed in and added that they have found the weirdest things like "vinegar" in their hotel toiletries.
