From tight seatbelts to limited meal options, a flight attendant reveals how passengers unknowingly miss out on simple ways to make flying comfortable.
Many people refrain from traveling by plane due to the discomfort and some unwritten rules that come with it. Firstly, it takes a considerable amount of time to board a flight, and sitting in coach has its hassles. To receive the best service, travelers might need to spend a little extra. However, a flight attendant shared seven unique ways to ease this bittersweet experience. Sandra Jeenie Kwon, a content creator and former flight attendant based in Canada—who goes by @jeenie.weenie on TikTok—recently shed light on the most important things to consider while traveling via airplane. The video showed her sharing insights into the aviation industry and how they can benefit passengers.
In a video that has garnered nearly 5 million views, Kwon provided solutions to most passengers’ problems. She emphasized how, by choosing to discard or ignore their concerns, passengers tend to lose their chances of having a pleasant flying experience. But she remained persistent in her approach, demanding passengers advocate for their comfort and make informed choices. While flying, she suggested that every customer is eligible for certain benefits that may eventually be availed by speaking to the airline staff. “Have you ever felt that your seatbelt was a bit too tight but just dealt with it the whole flight anyway? Well, you actually don't have to,” remarked Kwon as she revealed the first secret benefit of flying by air.
Kwon went on to say that no passenger needs to bear the inconvenience caused by a tight seatbelt as long as they approach the airline staff. "You can ask for a seatbelt extender so that you can sit comfortably and practice safety," the flight attendant added. Thereafter, she emphasized how passengers who find it difficult to sip their drink through the glass midair can always seek alternatives. While revealing the second secret, she asked, "You know when it's drink service time and the flight attendants open up the can and give you the cup?" She emphasized that people should not hesitate to make such a demand. "Well, if you want the full can, just ask for it and they'll give it to you," Kwon suggested as she moved to her third secret benefit.
She advised that any passenger who was hungry even after the meal service was done could always ask for another. “Because whatever's left, we're gonna throw it out anyways,” she added. While sharing the fourth secret, she mentioned first aid kits available on flights. “So, if you have a headache or feel nauseous or maybe you're bleeding, we might have something for you. So just ask,” Kwon encouraged.
Not everyone flies frequently, and Kwon understood that people wish to make their occasional air trips memorable. For the fifth secret, she suggested that aviation enthusiasts, especially first-time flyers, ask for a photo from inside the cockpit. “And if the pilot is still there, you can maybe ask for a photo with them too,” Kwon said. In her sixth secret, Kwon said that passengers can ask for "wing pins" from the attendants. In her seventh and final secret, she said, "Some airlines also have plane trading cards. Just ask your flight attendants."
Kwon's 55-second video managed to draw widespread attention on social media, including from @captclayton, who reaffirmed, “I love when people visit the cockpit. The thing is, they rarely do. I have loads of wings and stacks of company stickers and airplane stickers to give to them all.” “When I am done with a meal service, nothing brings me more relief than when a customer asks for an extra meal,” @wildamarie03 added.
