Leaning your head against the window while napping on a flight might seem harmless, but a flight attendant has revealed why it’s best to avoid this common habit. Tommy Cimato, a TikTok content creator and flight attendant, recently shared five crucial tips for flying in a viral video. Among his advice: don’t touch the flush button in airplane lavatories with your bare hands. “It is super unsanitary and pretty gross,” Cimato explains. Instead, he recommends using a napkin or tissue to press the flush button.

Cimato also stresses the importance of staying hydrated while flying. “Do not forget to drink water and stay hydrated,” he says, adding that passengers should aim for about 16 ounces of water for every flight they take. Another key tip? Avoid sleeping or leaning your head on the airplane window. Cimato explains, “You are not the only one who has done that. And you do not know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things all over the window.” It’s a compelling reminder to be mindful of hygiene during air travel.

Cimato then spoke about why passengers should not wear shorts on a flight. "Don't or try not to wear shorts when you are on an airplane. It is the same thing as the window. You'll never know how clean it is going to be. So if you wear pants, you are going to have less germs." The last thing he shared was that one should not feel afraid to tell a flight attendant that he/she is sick. "We are here to help. So if you need food, water or an air sickness bag, please feel free to let us know," the flight attendant concluded.

People in the comments were stunned by the flight attendant's warnings. @alex_ruyyc asked, "Don't they sanitize after every flight?" Cimato replied, "The ground crew does all the plane cleaning, they try their best to keep it clean but this is just in case it gets missed!" @txpotato2795 wrote, "Tell me you’re scared of germs without telling me you’re scared of germs." @natashabinkley1 commented, "Everyone laughed at me for wiping down my family’s row before we sat down—everything from the window wall, trays, armrests, back of chairs, etc..." @giannicarballo shared, "My first time on a plane I was really sick, told the flight attendant and she ignored me. I had a fever, felt dizzy and cried for the entire flight."

@lissyrissy expressed, "Guys the planes get cleaned thoroughly between each flight. I used to be an airline cleaner and they’re always cleaned so don’t be so paranoid." @paemsi said, "How are we supposed to drink enough water when we‘re not allowed to bring any, you give us like two sips for a 13-hour flight and a bottle at the airport costs 5$?" @linashijazeen wrote, "Me who just got off the plane and used the bathroom and slept on the window."
