The Bondi terror attack was one of the deadliest shootings to befall Australia, taking the lives of at least 16 people and leaving dozens injured, reported TIME Magazine. There’s possibly no good one can expect to come out of the situation. However, for 46-year-old content creator James McIntosh and 35-year-old physiotherapist Alexandra 'Lexi' Edmondson, crossing paths in such an unexpected manner turned into something wonderful, according to The Daily Mail. When disaster struck at the beach, they risked their lives to help and eventually fell in love

The duo initially met while completing a surf life-saving program and later arrived at the beach for a Christmas party. That’s when the gunmen opened fire, and Edmondson and McIntosh were among the first people to rush to the scene and help victims. Initially, they had no idea what was going on at the beach. “I later remember the sense of relief when Lexi and I were on our way to the hospital that we had gotten out of there,” McIntosh recalled. They offered help to seven victims and later even assisted officers in carrying the injured. The drive back home was a profound one, but little did they know, it would change the story of their lives, reported The Australian.

Having seen such a cruel side of humanity, only to escape and save the lives of countless others, was surreal. The first thing Edmondson did was call her mom, and seeing her vulnerable yet grounded self, McIntosh was inspired. They initially planned to remain friends before they ever learned more about each other. “We kept bumping into each other and our hearts cracked open,” McIntosh said. Two nights later, they met at a friend’s gathering and started dating. Eventually, they moved in together, and in February, McIntosh popped the question. In a post shared on Instagram under @stayplayful, he mentioned that Edmondson said yes.

The duo is set to marry this year, but what surprises them is that they never had romance on their mind when they joined the program, let alone the devastating shooting. However, their connection with each other had them intertwined. “I’ve never felt more connected to anyone than I am with Lexi, and during that proposal, I said I had never been more sure of anything in my life,” McIntosh said. “He really has filled my life with so much joy,” Edmondson added.

The connection kept growing and building to become something more significant that they could seal with marriage. A study on 231 married couples in Houston, Texas, revealed that disasters tend to bring people together, closer in love. The findings revealed that the couples who witnessed Hurricane Harvey reportedly had more satisfaction and feelings of love after the disaster struck.

From before to after the hurricane, both husbands and wives noted a higher rate of satisfaction by 3.29 and 2.54 points, respectively. However, it was also noted that the change was temporary, and the levels slightly dropped after recovery from the exposure to the disaster. Nevertheless, these feelings are likely similar to what Edmondson and McIntosh experienced after they witnessed the brutal shooting. The internet is vouching for them, hoping they can find their happily ever after. @deeteshi wrote, “This makes me the happiest! Love you both, beautiful humans.” @kierenbentley added, "Awww, what a beautiful vid! So happy for you guys, congrats!!"
