Dad admits it hurt to place his daughter in another man’s arms — then he said something that left her fiancé sobbing

It’s always tough for a father to see his daughter marry, no matter how prepared he is. While he is happy to finally see his princess find someone who promises to love and honor her for a lifetime, letting go of the little girl he has protected throughout and trusting someone else with her heart often feels daunting. That's exactly how Claire's dad felt when he realized it was time to pass her to her husband's arms. He was quite emotional; in fact, he couldn't hold back his tears during the speech as he confessed just how difficult it is for him. However, it was his concluding lines that had everyone, including the groom, in tears. Their wedding videographer, Dukes Films (@tjdukesfilms), posted the lovely moment on January 15. 

He loved his daughter like anything. So, trusting someone else to love and pamper her like that was difficult for Claire's father. "As we pass her from our arms into your arms...that's not an easy thing for a father to do," he confessed. By now, Claire's father was struggling to fight back tears; he paused for a moment, looking straight into his son-in-law's eyes, and continued, "…but there is nobody I would rather have than you take care of my daughter." Claire's husband was also emotional; he could feel his father-in-law's emotions and somehow conveyed through his eyes that he would do anything to take care of his daughter. 

Most fathers share a wonderful relationship with their daughters; in fact, research suggests that fathers who are emotionally involved in their daughters' lives play a key role in fostering their self-esteem, often without realizing it. The way they interact with their daughters, apparently, has a profound impact on how she feels about herself, her strengths, and her talents. "Providing emotional support, affirmation, and clear communication between fathers and children helps lessen the negative effects of paternal disengagement on children's self-esteem," the study notes. This explains why Claire's father couldn't control his tears at her wedding. It wasn't only a moment of pride and love but also a reflection of the deep bond they share.
