Family recreates grandma's iconic looks from over the years to honor her sass and spirit on her 88th b'day

Grandmas are the beating heart of any family. A warm hug from your grandma can prove unexpectedly healing and their lives often serve as a great inspiration for the next generations. A woman named Alexandra Madison (@alexandramadisonn) took to Instagram to share the inspiring story of her grandma and revealed the heartwarming way in which the family surprised her on her 88th birthday.

"My grandma is the strongest woman I know. In her twenties she married and had children with our family's version of Voldemort who left her as a single mother of five children," Madison says in a voiceover for the video, which shows several clips of her grandma with family. "My dad was the oldest of four younger sisters and she needed to find a way to provide for her family because she's a hardworking queen who had more creativity and talent in her pinky nail than her sperm donor. She took designs and successfully started and grew a luxury evening wear company which is still open and operating today. She even designed my wedding gown."

Madison also shared how her grandma is the kind of person who always thinks about everybody else. "Her holiday parties are full of strangers who had nowhere to go because my grandma just considered everybody family," she revealed. In the next clip, the beloved grandma is seen embracing her dogs while the voiceover shares how much she loves them. "She is so incredible so for her birthday this year we thought what better way to honor the woman that we all love than to dress up as her," Madison explained. "As a fashionista, there was no shortage of iconic looks for us to choose from when people asked why we weren't waiting till her 90th birthday, my cousin said it the best, 'Why wait? She is eighty-eight.'"

In the last few seconds of the heartfelt video, the entire family is seen dressed as the cherished senior from various points in her life. They wait in the house for the birthday girl, who walks into a room filled with her loved ones dressed as her. Her face lights up with joy, and she is seen shedding happy tears.

Many took to the post to talk about how incredible the gesture was and how fitting it was for a strong woman like her. "I'm sorry... 88?? No. Maybe 68! She looks phenomenal. And what a fun theme for a birthday celebration!" wrote @l.a._lady. "Just one woman grew and kept this whole village! Woman, see how you can birth a nation (generations) really if you just believe. Your grandma has inspired me. Thank you for sharing," commented @adaofkai. "Okay but what’s grandma’s luxury evening wear company’s Instagram?!! This is SO touching and a creative way to honor her," added @yomna.h.f. Others talked about the family legacy that she has created. "Now THAT is what family legacy is.
