'Take the time to show my love now and not to wait'
To all those who say relationships are complex, sometimes irritating, but mostly hard, they need to witness the most recent heartwarming post shared by Annie Bardonski, who goes by @ohhmyannie on Instagram. When Bardonski shot a video of a surprise visit between her grandparents, she didn't realise she was actually capturing a farewell. Stricken with dementia, her grandmother lived in a care home, while her grandfather took accommodation with her family in Washington. Since he's the only one she remembers vividly, the family brought her home to meet him.
In the video shared, Bardonski's grandmother is seen embracing the love of her life in her last days. Annie’s grandparents passed last year, just months apart from each other, and her family spread their ashes on June 9, 2025. “My grandparents were my favorite people. One of my biggest regrets is that my grandma always said we should write letters to each other, but I never really got around to it before her dementia started kicking in. It reminds me to take the time to show my love now and not to wait,” Bardonski wrote in the caption of the video.
People suffering from dementia typically remember more from years ago than the recent past, and sometimes these old memories trigger current events too. This is what happened to Bardonski’s grandparents in their final visit to each other. The video features her grandmother walking into a room to meet her husband, who glows radiantly upon seeing her, “Hey, how's my girl doing?” Her grandmother slips onto his lap and they share a kiss while he says, “You do know that I love you.” “It's good to see you.. It's been so long,” adds her grandmother in a soft voice.
Bardonski, lamenting the sad demise of her grandmother, wrote, “My grandma knew I loved her and she loves me so much. Even when her memory was going out, she would tell me all the stories over and over again, about how when I was little, she would always see my little moon-shaped eyes peeking up over my crib, smiling at her and how I was her girl.”
A latest report shared by the Survey Center on American Life showed 62% of Americans believed that dating and relationships are more challenging now than it was a decade before. 10% said it was easier, and roughly 1 in 4 mentioned no change. Among single Americans, on the other hand, 62% of men and 67% of women shared the same view that dating has now become hard. This is why such heartwarming stories of couples conquering all obstacles in the name of love, leave such a deep impact.
People poured love, @mabelstar wrote, “I pray that this love may find me in this lifetime and forever lifetime I may exist; a love so pure and wholesome." "Oh my goodness, this is so beautiful to watch how this couple is toward each other. It was very touching to see them together. God bless them," said @anaiyah211221. Another user @ka59987 said, "What an adorable couple, rest in peace, this story certainly pulls on the heart strings GOD BLESS." "I’m sobbing, this is so precious," commented @miss.excel.
