They did not want to miss the match and even included the deceased in the viewing of the highly stipulated team.
Many fanatics around the world go to crazy lengths to watch their favorite soccer team play. No matter how crucial their plans are, they would be ready to give it up when there's a soccer game. Recently, a Chilean family made the headlines for putting their mourning on hold just to watch a soccer match. The video, which lasts for just a few seconds, was shared by Vision Pais (@VisionPais2050) on X and went wildly viral. After all, the family was giving their deceased relative an iconic sendoff and many wholesome responses came in from soccer fans on the internet.
The video shared on June 23 shows a group of men, old and young, ardently fixated on the TV screen. The room was filled with flowers and a decorated coffin occupied one corner. Besides some old men passionately watching the game was a banner that featured the image of the deceased person. "Uncle Fena, thanks for everything. We will always remember the happy moments that you gave," the condolence message on the banner read. So, amid their beloved Tio Fena's funeral, the family members decided not to miss the soccer game that happened that day.

Not only did they pause the funeral but also included Uncle Fena as a spectator and laid out their team's jerseys on his coffin. "This is the most bizarre thing you will see today," the video's caption read. When this weirdly hilarious video was shared on Instagram by Morocco World News (@moroccoworldnews), it blew up, gaining over 2.6 million views. "A funeral procession was interrupted as family members of a deceased individual in Chile halted proceedings to watch a Copa America match between Chile and Peru. Gathered inside the prayer room, they turned their attention to a large screen broadcasting the game, adorning the deceased's casket with jerseys of their favorite players," their caption read.
Soccer freaks could relate to the strong devotion that the family might have had for the sport and others considered it a classic sendoff for the deceased person. "It's more like they are watching the last game with him. You can see the trophies and jerseys on the coffin," said @simochioukh. "I think his soul wanted to watch the match with his friends," pointed out @farhan_z.y. "They didn't pause the funeral. They were watching one last game with him," remarked @ariagrace21. "A very nice to honor the deceased who probably loved soccer," added @fadalouieandme.

Speaking of soccer fanatics' insane love for the sport, a dad went viral for his ingenious way of watching soccer without waking the baby. Makenzie Waters (@makwaters) shared on TikTok her husband's way of silently celebrating his soccer team's wins so that his baby wouldn't wake up. "He learned his lesson," the text overlay read. At first, we can see the dad watching soccer wearing mittens. Only when he starts to celebrate that we understand that the mittens are for clapping without making a sound. He even moved away from the room to let out his excitement. His idea worked and the kid slept undisturbed.
