Most couples try their best to keep their relationships happy and amiable. But it isn't an unusual thing for relationships to go south. There also might be a variety of reasons why things go wrong and then eventually lead to a relationship breaking up. As per an expert from Easy Online Divorce, the biggest reason behind a divorce happening isn't actually cheating. The person, James Brien, told Express about the reason and talked about the emotional impacts of the same on a relationship.

"There are many factors behind why couples divorce, and it’s often not one single action that spells the end of a marriage. But there is a common theme I see in most couples looking to end their legal partnership - a lack of communication," Brien told the outlet. "At some point along the way, their communication has broken down and they have found it hard or impossible to speak to one other about the problems they are facing." According to him, when this happens, the couple usually stops telling each other what went wrong or trying to solve their problems, which eventually leads to bitter feelings at some point along the way. "I see this when they reach the stage of wanting to end their marriage and are at complete odds about why their relationship has crumbled."

"Often one action is blamed - such as infidelity - but the truth is a marriage has often broken down before such an act is carried out," the expert pointed out. "Divorce can have far-reaching emotional impacts. This is why it’s so important to be as open and honest with each other as possible," the man went on as he explained that communication is important even if a couple decides to go through with the divorce to make the process less painful. "Be truthful about your feelings and listen when your partner does the same. If you do reach a point where you can no longer stay in the marriage, an understanding of each other goes a huge way to minimizing conflict. It’s a big ask, but it is possible."

An attorney, Andrew Zashin, also shared what he feels about the reason behind the breakdown of a marriage. He revealed that the most common reason, according to his experience, is money. "Most people assume that the primary causes of divorce are couples who naturally 'grow apart' over time and become disinterested in one another, or situations where one of the parties engages in some sort of extra-marital activity," he told the outlet. "Most family law experts agree that the most frequent reasons couples decide to divorce relate to money. From my 30 plus years of practice, I am certain that money-related issues are the primary cause of divorce."

According to a survey conducted with 4,574 couples about the impact of financial well-being, financial disagreements, and perceptions of financial inequity on a relationship. Financial disagreements were one of the strongest disagreements that happened in a marriage. If financial disagreements were involved in a situation, financial well-being didn't impact the arguments as much, as per the study. So, the couple who doesn't agree about their finances has a stronger likelihood of growing apart.
