Expecting couple checked their sonogram and did a double take — their dog was staring back at them

Inês Egner (@inesverse), an expecting mother, was shocked when the doctor handed her the sonogram report. The pregnant woman wasn't stunned because there was something abnormal in the pictures, but because, to her, they looked exactly like their dog, Goulash. Egner, who had a hearty laugh seeing the images, posted them on TikTok on October 9, 2025. The hilarious post has received over 3 million views so far.

Egner was excited for her anatomy scan, and rightfully so, because she wanted to see her son growing in her tummy. But the result was far more than exciting; Egner, at least, could now say her dog is her biological child. Right? The woman who had gone for her 20-week anatomy sonogram with her husband and best friend told PEOPLE that her first reaction upon seeing the uncanny similarity was to laugh. The doctor handed her the sonogram report, and while they were skimming through the pictures, her friend interrupted, saying, "Wait, doesn't the baby look just like Goulash?" Egner said she and her husband couldn't stop laughing, as they could no longer ignore the striking resemblance between their son and the dog. "I then sent the photos to my family via text, and my father, unprompted, actually said the same thing. He responded to that particular picture and said, 'The baby looks like Goulash.' No one can unsee it now," she added.

Egner and her husband often refer to him as their "son." So, when they noticed the "uncanny" resemblance, they were elated. In fact, they felt like it was just proof of their bond. "I know you're meant to say your baby looks beautiful in the sonogram photos, that they look just like their parents and whatnot, but the reality is they are really ugly. Sometimes downright creepy! And in truth, we do like to jokingly refer to the dog as our son, so it was just a fun time overall," she added. Now, their dog, which was rescued as a 7-month-old puppy, is an integral part of the family and has been a total sweetheart ever since Egner was pregnant. "He's always lying next to or on me, so I haven't really noticed him being more clingy than usual. He does sniff at the belly sometimes, but I'm not sure that means he understands something is going on," Egner said.

More often than not, fetal MRI and ultrasound images look spooky, but that is no reason to worry. In fact, explaining it a bit further, Suzanne Debari, a registered diagnostic medical sonographer at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, told TODAY, "I could show you an adult MRI and it would look just as scary. It’s almost like we’re slicing a loaf of bread, and then picking up the slice and looking at it." Meanwhile, reacting to Egner's post, @035mini commented, "I'm showing this to people when they tell me that my dog isn't my child." @mollyclair11 wrote, "When people do the trend saying, 'This is my child; I literally carried them,' and they show their dog on an ultrasound, I think you would definitely win that one!" @bbykiikz commented, "I am glad to know your youngest looks like your eldest. No DNA testing needed."

@itz_kiki74 joked, "At least now you can say that you really did give birth to your fur baby." @samanthanewsom1 wrote, "I actually cannot breathe; this is literally the best thing I’ve ever seen in my life." @annabellecamp_10 commented, "I actually thought 'that looks suspiciously like a dog' on slide 2, then swiped and have never been more pleasantly surprised." @kaseyxoxo16.08 said, "Everyone’s like, 'My baby looked like this,' or 'At least your baby doesn’t look like this.' I’m still trying to figure out where the baby is in this scan."
