The mom described how her family members would do anything to get the little remaining soap out of the bottle but not take the initiative to refill it.
Juggling kids’ schooling, meal planning, kitchen organization, and keeping track of groceries and everyone’s needs—the invisible load of motherhood can leave women drained, exhausted, and burned out. Many moms find themselves running on empty, stuck in an endless cycle of household chores with no time for themselves. One such mom, Kay (@theearlybirdhasanxiety), took to TikTok to share her frustrations, revealing how a simple “soap dispenser” made her realize just how exhausted she truly was.
“People wanna know why wives and mothers are so frustrated,” Kay said in the video, which has garnered nearly 170,000 views ever since. She then brought in a blue bottle in front of the camera. “This is our soap dispenser that sits by the sink,” she described while flashing the bottle capped with a golden dispenser pump. “It's been empty for a week. I'm the only one that ever fills it,” the woman described with an enervating expression.
She added that her family has gotten to a point where they just twist the bottle’s lid to squeeze out the remnants of soap liquid from the bottle, but they wouldn’t take the initiative of refilling it. “We've now gotten to the point where they're taking the lid off so that they can dump what's left in there out rather than just fill it. I am going to lose,” confessed the mom. Describing her feelings further, she wrote in a comment “The invisible load is crushing.”
In the video’s caption, she sprinkled some red anger emojis and wrote, “I swear they believe in a refill fairy or something.” Well, clearly no “refill fairy” will arrive for her family members, but hundreds of people did act as a support fairy for Kay as they hopped into the comments section to share their views on the exhaustion of motherhood. “I had to basically scream ‘your time isn’t more valuable than mine.’ To get them to understand,” said @cupcake_girl211. @life_with_lisette said, “Fill it and hide it where only you know where it is and can use it. Or, unplug the WiFi until all the house stuff is sorted.”
@luciid.bee shared, “This is why I've made sure to split chores between my bf and me and write out the tasks on a list.” @enrinle03 confessed, “Nobody will ever convince me this is better than being single.” @gapeach19810 shared, “If anyone in my family did a task without being asked, I would probably think the sky was falling.”
Many moms joined the discussion and commented about their own agonizing experiences. “I left 3 Cheez on a couch cushion for 3 days. They just… sat around it? Hello,” exclaimed @stonecow. One mom was so depressed that she wished that she had never grown up to become a mother. “Sometimes I wish I could go back to being younger just so that I can redo so much to take off of my mother's load. like so much was simple but I never did it bc 'mom will take care of it,” wrote @n1cketycr1cket.
Yet others said that scenarios were changing in their households. “My six-year-old knows to change the toilet paper and tells me when the soap needs change (I don’t trust him to fill it.) I’m trying so hard to make sure he doesn’t grow up to be the typical man,” shared a mom @kaseyk181.
