The individual did not expect to get mistaken for an employee, much less have a shoe thrown at them.
Imagine you’re out shopping for new shoes, and someone mistakes you for a store employee—then physically attacks you when you don’t respond. That's exactly what happened to Reddit user u/ashleyorelse. They shared their wild experience of dealing with an over-the-top customer in a shoe store. It all started when they went to buy a new pair of running shoes.
They went to a local store known for its low prices to browse for running shoes. "I find a nice pair of shoes and am in the process of removing them from the box so I can try them on when I hear a woman shout from the end of the row," they wrote. The woman was rudely yelling at someone to help her try on shoes. At first, the Redditor thought the woman was speaking to her child, but decided to ignore it and continued browsing.
"What the hell do you think you're doing? Customers come first!" the customer yelled once again. The individual decided to ignore her once again and started jogging up and down to test the shoes they got on. "I'm slowly jogging back to my shoes, totally delighted at getting this new pair and I feel something slam into the back of my head. I look around and the woman with a behemoth behind me is standing there with a smug look between anger and satisfaction plastered across her miserable face," the post revealed. Meanwhile the entitled woman customer addressed them as an employee yet again.
"It takes a few short seconds for me to process this. She hit me in the head with a shoe because she thinks I'm an employee. Wait, she hit me in the head with a shoe! 'Are you out of your mind? I don't work here, lady!'" they yelled back at the older lady. "I started moving toward her, but three real employees descended on us. The behemoth took the lead and launched into a tirade about how I wasn't doing my job, even though I'd just told her I didn't work there. I told the nearest employee what happened while she ranted to a guy who turned out to be the manager."
The manager, who was watching everything from his office through the video monitors, threatened the entitled customer that he would be calling the police on her. The manager had witnessed everything that happened and how she threw a shoe at the customer. "She tried running away but hilariously slipped on a shoe box, falling right back onto the seat she had been on and then she apparently gave up on the idea of escape," the post revealed. When a police officer arrived, the entitled customer denied throwing the shoe at u/ashleyorelse. When the manager handed over the video evidence to the police, the entitled woman was put in handcuffs and led out of the store. "As for me, I got my brand new pair of running shoes at the best price ever, free, thanks to the manager's insistence even though I said he didn't need to do that," the post concluded.
The Reddit community was furious at the entitled woman's behavior and sided with the customer who got attacked for no reason at all. u/Contank commented, "Perfect! I always love the stories where they get what they deserve and that is a good manager giving you the shoes for free even though he didn't have to do that as he has no control over bad customers. Just getting her arrested was enough." u/CraftyGal1965 quipped, "She threw a shoe at you? I would have lost it at that point!" u/InsaneChihuahua added, "Better than me. I'd have probably lost my cool and beat her with a shoe. Not the best idea, I know, but I just think I'd have lost my temper."
