Engaged woman asked her parents if she could spend the night at her fiancé's house. Her dad said, 'Why don't you get your stuff and move in?'

They've gone out of town together too, but apparently, staying over for the night was different

Different cultures have different views when it comes to moving in with a partner. Registered Nurse and content creator Lizeth Bravo (@lifewithlizeth) comes from a Mexican household with more traditional views on relationships and living together before marriage. On June 28, 2026, Bravo gathered the courage to ask her father if she could stay over for the night at her fiancé Eric's house. Her jaw hit the floor when she heard his response. The video has since racked up 362,400 views, 38,000 likes, and 486 comments.

'Give him a surprise'

Bravo wanted to stay the night at Eric's house, but her problem was that she had to ask her father for permission. As an adult woman, she admitted, "That sounds so funny, but I live in a Mexican household." She had stayed over at his house only once, and that was for a specific reason. insisting on

When she finally gathered the courage to ask her father, his response was, "No." One word. She kept insisting on what he meant by "No," so he added, "As a matter of fact, why don't you get your stuff and move in? How's that?" He even suggested she give Eric a surprise by moving in that very night. Bravo laughed at his response but added, "We're literally engaged...What's the difference?"

1 a.m. karma

In another video, Bravo insisted she was going over to Eric's place to stay the night. She told her dad, "It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission...I learned that from you." Her father simply said, "You live under my roof." Bravo finally decided to sneak out since they wouldn't let her go. She took her dog Layla along, but the moment she got in the car, she panicked. "I'm so scared because I don't wanna get in trouble. I've never done anything like this before," a terrified Bravo said to the camera.

Around 1 a.m., Bravo was back home. "Layla would not stop crying, and honestly, I was just feeling super guilty. I couldn't sleep; I started getting restless legs. It just didn't feel right with me...but I just couldn't do it." Bravo thought she would get away with it. But when she got home, the battery to the front door was dead. She could not get inside the house because the keypad was still charging. She had to call her mother to open the door for her. When she was finally inside the house, she asked her mom if she knew she was gone, but nobody even realized she was gone.

Involved parents

In some cultures, living with one's parents while unmarried is not unusual. But recently, more adult children in the US are living with their parents. A report from Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households (SHED) revealed that in 2025, 49% of adults below 30 years old lived with a parent. The number went up by 6% from 2022. Additionally, a 2023 Pew Research Center survey found that 69% of young adults said that their parents were involved in their daily lives as much as they wanted, while 22% said their parents were less involved than they would like.

The other 9% admitted that their parents were more involved in their lives than they would like. Bravo thought her dad was being ridiculous and controlling by denying her permission to stay at her fiancé's house. But when she actually went against him, she realized she couldn't do it.

People had extremely polarizing opinions in the comment section. Some thought it was sad that a grown woman had to ask for permission to do what she wanted, while others understood where she was coming from. @morevicky45 commented, "I love this! The immediate 'No' was what I expected." @abii.1330 chimed in, "I don’t ask anymore; I just tell them now, but this is real as f**k."
