The micromanaging boss never cared if the tasks were done or not. He only tried to control the employees' work timings.
Keeping up the promptness at work is important but not always possible. Even the most punctual person might arrive at work late due to unforeseen hindrances or wish to leave earlier for crucial reasons. While many bosses understand this aspect of timekeeping, some micromanaging leaders become an absolute menace to the employees. That was the case for u/Bella4077 on Reddit who had the perfect payback for their micromanaging boss. Fed up with their boss's constant disregard for employees arriving a little later or leaving a little earlier than the designated work time, the employee decided to make him regret his policy.
In their post, the worker shared a brief background of their old boss, who was pretty flexible when it came to work timings. "As long as we got our tasks done, if something came up and we needed to slip out a few minutes early, they never had much of an issue," they wrote. Despite this leniency, the employee never took advantage of the work timings and even if they did so rarely, they made up for it. However, the arrival of their new boss was a nightmare for the workers. "This new boss comes along and is such a micromanager and control freak. Now, we are not allowed to be even a minute late or leave a minute early," they explained.
Whoever wished to leave work a bit early for personal reasons had no other choice than to put in their PTO for a half or a full day. The employee had a situation where they had to leave early for an appointment and they thought working during the break hours might make up for it. However, their boss "balked at" the idea. So, they just maliciously complied. "I arranged ahead of time for a whole personal day off. I booked myself a massage and went out to lunch before my appointment," they mentioned. "Boss wasn't happy with me for taking a personal day, especially since we're currently short-staffed, but I did follow their policy," the worker added.
This hilarious retaliation story seemed relatable to many users. "What is up with bosses balking over 5 minutes? Seriously. Are they on glue or what? I dislike petty micromanagers like that," said u/Woollyprimate. "You know what makes me look good as a boss? My team getting things done and getting it done well. Do you know what helps them do that? Trusting them to be professional and giving them space and autonomy to make their lives work," pointed out u/champagneanddust. "A boss that gets all veiny-foreheaded over 5 minutes is a boss with not enough to do. Contact boss's boss and say they look bored and you can't help but notice you don't often see them working" suggested u/ososososal.
While speaking of micromanaging bosses, the story of one hardworking employee's hilarious compliance to micromanaging boss's demand needs to be mentioned. u/fire_me_anytime shared a story of their friend Bobby, who was given a "demerit slip" from his foreman boss for finishing work late. Bobby's job as a CNC machinist involved making crucial machine parts and he had to stay late to deliver 3 parts per day. But after receiving the demerit slip, Bobby simply clocked out of work right on time causing chaos in the company as the production was hindered. Eventually, the foreman had to get out of Bobby's hair and let him do his job.
