The mom of three who was expecting to switch jobs in due time was instantly terminated when she put in her two-week notice.
The workplace horror stories on the internet demonstrate how poorly employees are treated by many organizations. Many employees face the wrath of inefficient management while working at the company and also when trying to quit. One of the best examples of this would be the situation a 29-year-old mom of three named Kelsi, found herself in. After notifying her team lead at work, Kelsi—who goes by @heyitskelsi1 on TikTok—put in her two weeks' notice at the end of this July. But her employer had other plans. In an uncomfortable conversation, the employer informed Kelsi that she was fired.
In a video shared online, Kelsi revealed that having found a "different and better" career path, she decided to put in her notice at her current job. When she informed her team lead of the same, she completely understood Kelsi's situation and even wished her a better future. While notifying her decision to quit, Kelsi was told that she would be able to finish her two-week notice period. She wanted to wait two weeks so that she would be able to manage her bills. As she was filming herself explaining this, she received a call from her employer, who threw a wrench in her plans. Kelsi kept recording their conversation and the employer began by wishing her well for her upcoming career. Then, he broke the news that she was going to be terminated immediately.
Kelsi informed him that her team lead had assured her she would be completing her two-week notice period. But the employer wouldn't agree. "That is not the case. I'm sorry she said that," he said. "Due to the sensitivity of the stuff that we work with in this department, whenever a two weeks' notice is provided, we have to accept it immediately. So we are going to go ahead and proceed with the separation today," the employer added. He then said that he appreciated Kelsi's work at her job and acknowledged that she might be "frustrated" at this unforeseen termination.
"I am pissed because I have three kids and I have bills to pay for and I'm not going to get paid until September 15. So yes, I'm livid," Kelsi responded in fury. She then tried to get clarity on whether they were terminating her the same day so that she could file for unemployment. The employer attempted to dodge the "termination" comment and said they were simply "accepting her resignation." But Kelsi fired back and said, "I am not resigning today. I am resigning on August 12. So if you tell me I'm going to be let go today, then I'm being terminated, is that correct?" The employee replied, "Yes, ma'am. We are separating your employment." They then asked Kelsi to log off her systems at work. She couldn't help but accept the termination.
The video garnered over 1.6 million views in a week. People advised Kelsi to file for unemployment as the company turned her resignation into a wrongful termination. "File for unemployment immediately. Send it all in writing to everyone, even the CEO," said @alicialewis114. "Never give two weeks. Give them notice and leave the same day. That's the only safe method," suggested @mikehasbourbonandguitars. "I think we should never ever give a two-week notice because they have started doing this, which is ridiculous. The last job that I switched to was several years ago. I gave a three-day notice," added @treasurefairy.
@heyitskelsi1 Dont give any job the courtesy of a 2 week notice. This is the bullshit they will do. #corporatetiktok #corporateamerica #workfromhome ♬ original sound - kelsiiii❤️
