The boss' response revealed that she is 'out of touch' with the reality of how her employees are struggling financially.
Disparity in pay is a complex issue that often goes unnoticed or is misunderstood by many. The issue is particularly prevalent within big corporations that pay managers and executives significantly higher salaries than those with entry-level positions. A woman—who goes by @mkchewning on TikTok—shared a post where she talked about a conversation she had with her boss that highlighted how out of touch she was with the lifestyle of her employees. She starts the video by saying, "A couple of weeks ago, I was telling my boss that I was struggling with money because I don't make a lot."
Upon hearing this, her boss tells her that she spends a lot of money on her three kids' education, funding their school and college fees. The boss's husband is also a lawyer, which allows them to live in a "million-dollar home." The boss reveals how she could have been very rich if she didn't have to pay for her kid's education and that she would be "rolling in dough." The woman realizes that her boss probably wants to relate to her by sharing her struggles. However, she simply could not relate to what the woman was going through in life.
The creator shares how she is $30,000 in debt after attending college and her boss can pay for three of her kids without a loan. In addition to that, her parents also have an extra $30,000 in college loans. "And so, it's just not the same. But I also know that she was trying to be relatable and relate to me, but it's not the same," she says. The woman reiterates how she is presently struggling to afford groceries while her boss is paying for her kids' education out of her pocket.
The video resonated with a lot of viewers, who shared their own experiences in the comments section. @skeletonstoner said, "I told my boss that I was struggling with money and she suggested I give up custody of my daughter to work more hours." @hi.stink shared, "I had a boss tell one of my clients that my hard work paid for her new Mercedes." Another person, @nobody2u76, revealed, "My old boss used to go on two lavish vacations a year and get a brand new car while 80% of his employees needed food stamps."
Most workers are not at all happy with the pay disparity between the people higher up the ladder and the employees. So, Luna's Blog put up an interesting post highlighting the huge gap between CEOs and their employees. They created a 'Minimum Wage Clock' that records how much a CEO earns every second as compared to minimum wages in different countries.

The experiment delivered shocking results. It turns out that there is a "vast disparity" between CEO's and normal employees. Sharing a list of numbers further down, it was evident that the minimum wage rates had a drastic difference. While the wage rate for US employees stands at $7.25 per hour, CEOs are receiving bigger chunks of dollars. The minimum wage for US youth is $4.25 per hour. However, CEOs make much more than this. For example, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, makes a whopping $13,033.85 per hour. This highlights a depressing reality about the modern working culture that we work for.
