One of the most challenging aspects of working in customer support would be dealing with Boomers who refuse to listen to any explanation. Oftentimes, the internet talks about how difficult it is to have a Boomer co-worker but a Boomer customer could be much worse. They barely try to comprehend the functioning of today's world. One sales worker who goes by u/Easy_Solution3671 on Reddit shared an instance of such troublesome customers and how they handled them. When a Boomer man and his wife lashed at the employee for their increased phone bill, the worker gave the perfect response in a composed manner.

The employee who worked in the sales department of a large telecommunications company often had to support customers with their queries. They remembered one Boomer customer and his wife who showed up early to the store and demanded they open soon. "I call them over to my desk and the Boomer husband sits down, throws his bill toward me and crosses his arms," they said. The arrogant man asked the employee, "What, are you guys trying to get rich in a month?" He mockingly laughed and added how high his bill was than normal. "I looked through the previous 3 months and discovered his contract had expired and his wife had re-signed a few months back and received a promo for a $50 bill credit," the employee explained.

However, the Boomer man and his wife wouldn't accept that they signed up for the promotional offer. "He then grabs the bill, goes to the second page and asks what this specific charge was. It was for security at his house which he insists was never on the bill," the employee wrote. When they paused while explaining his bill, the man annoyingly mocked them and said, "You work here and you don’t even know how to read the bills?" Yet, the sales worker was patient with him and proceeded to break down his bill for him. "He has no idea what his bill means. I’m trying to explain it but I’m not saying what he wants to hear so he wants to bully me until I say what he wants to hear," they mentioned.

As the employee placed their finger on the bill to show the Boomer man what the charges meant, he forcefully snatched the paper and kept insisting he was overcharged. That was it for the employee. They patiently refused to answer his queries. "I thought about continuing but grabbed the paper, folded it up, put it back into the envelope, handed it back to him and said, 'Have a good day sir,'" they said. This composed yet hard-hitting response riled up the customer who said, "You just lost a customer." The employee added, "I stated that I’d be happy to assist him further if we could both be adults about it and that the way he was talking to me wasn’t going to work."

This response garnered praise for the employee from one of the co-workers and even the internet. "I’m sorry you had to deal with such an ignoramus; you handled it with more grace than most people," reassured u/electricsugargiggles. "You and any other person who works in customer service have my respect for having to deal with people like this daily. The guy came looking to pick a fight. Way to go keeping your head. Nothing infuriates these people more than the other person refusing to raise to their bait," said u/theflyinfoote. "These same Boomers always want to know why no one wants to work anymore! Dang, you are a professional to the core!" lauded u/AdventurousCamp1940.
