Employee constantly humiliated by cruel boss saw her mugshot — and fired back with her signature line

The ex-worker endured humiliation for 5 years until it became unbearable. But even on their last day, the boss didn't refrain from insulting them.

They say practice what you preach, but ironically, some people preach ideals without living by them. The same boss who used to lecture workers about responsibility was later arrested for impaired driving. What's even funnier is that an ex-worker who used to work for her sent her a card after hearing about her arrest, reminding her that karma has a really funny way of knocking on the door. The ex-worker (u/tx_mothman on Reddit) posted the story on February 27.

The former employee had been working with kids with disabilities for five years. Although they loved their job, the boss, J, was a major problem. She would never respond to emails, always accuse the ex-worker of breaking student iPads, and constantly encourage them to do illegal things. In fact, when the ex-worker used to report child abuse cases, J would ignore them as if nothing happened. Moreover, she hung on to every little opportunity to humiliate and belittle the ex-worker. "Some of her favorite quotes are, 'I pay you — you do what I want.' 'If you don’t like it, go work at Walmart.' 'That’s why you’re not the boss.' 'Be your own problem solver,'" they recalled. The ex-worker endured the humiliation and mental torture for five years until it became unbearable. They submitted their resignation, and on the last working day, their colleagues threw them a party, and everyone signed their good wishes on a card. J, however, saw the opportunity as her last chance to taunt the worker. So, she did what was expected of her. She signed the card with a sarcastic message for the ex-worker, "Not everyone is cut out for this level of responsibility; good luck, J."

Fast forward to last week, the ex-worker saw J's mugshot, saying she was arrested for driving under the influence. So, the ex-worker sent J a "thinking about you" greeting card and reminded her of her own words. "So sorry to hear about your arrest. Not everyone is cut out for this level of responsibility; good luck," they wrote inside the card.

People don’t quit jobs — they leave bad bosses, and that's exactly what the ex-worker did. In fact, a BambooHR survey found that almost half (47%) of employees who quit their jobs within the last 12 months said they loved their job but couldn't tolerate their manager. Moreover, a majority of respondents (90%) reported that their boss had some impact on their decision to quit, while only 10% said their boss had no role at all. Additionally, 58% blamed their boss's management skills, and 88% cited at least one negative behavior, such as poor communication, favoritism, or taking credit, as a contributing factor for quitting.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Reddit story, u/bright_annual_6078 commented, "Oh, my gosh, she sounds like the most miserable human on the face of the earth. Good for you." Similarly, u/ydnar3000 wrote, "This has been my favorite petty revenge story. Well, maybe 'favorite' isn’t the right word. That woman’s work practices sound heinous. But it’s great petty revenge. You didn’t even have to do much; she did it to herself!" u/maleficentendscurse commented, "Honestly, when the ex-boss wrote that on your card, you should have said this to their face, 'I'm leaving because you're a piece of c**p, and I'll be telling the labor board and all the other inspection people about this place because you're again a piece of c**p.'"
