The employee spoke about how his company tried to deny his PTO application even though he had informed them about it six months ago.
Taking paid time off or PTO is an employee's right and even more so if they have informed their boss well in advance. Graeson Mcgaha–who goes by @greason.mcgaha.comedy on TikTok–shared a similar experience with his manager about being sent to HR even after requesting a PTO six months in advance. Mcgaha spoke about his frustration and how he had to give his supervisor a reality check. People on social media sided with him and shared similar instances.
Mcgaha began the video by telling what exactly happened. “I was called into HR today because me and a supervisor had a tiff about a PTO request,” he shared. “See, he thought six months ago when I put in the request that I was asking to go to my sister’s wedding.” He clarified that by requesting PTO, he was telling them that he was not going to be around and they needed to be ready for it. He explained, “No, PTO stands for ‘prepare the others’ because I will not be here that day.”
After this, he revealed that his supervisor told him he was "lucky" to have this job. He recounted, “Wait for the best part where he says that it’s a bad economy right now and I’m lucky to have this job. Right, I was hired five years ago and out of that new hire orientation class of 20 people, me and about three others are the only ones to remain.” He also spoke about the new joiners at his company. “And I’ve seen the new crop of people that are coming in, the ones that work for two days and then no call, no show. Seems to me like I’m not the lucky one in this situation,” Mcgaha shared.
People couldn’t agree more with Mcgaha. @countrygirls127 commented, “Been at my current job almost three years. Get treated like it’s my first day every day. I’m the only one out of orientation left.” @demodebay wrote, “PTO doesn’t mean I’m asking for it off. I’m telling you that I will not be there that day. I don’t get why companies think they own you, lmao.” @melissacoleman858 shared, “I’m going to start using this ‘prepare the others because I will not be here.’” @poison_heart1 said, “Same. I gave notice for surgery I was having [on my] foot. My boss called me and was like, ‘Can you work?’ My doctor FaceTimed him and goes no she can’t.”
@Alicia_Neal said, “Exactly! I don’t ask to take time off! That’s my time! My job says, can take it if it’s available! Haha, don’t think so. If I need it, I’m taking it!” @doubleoakfarm added, “I had five weeks vacation at my last job. The boss said I could only use it two days at a time contrary to written policy. Love my new boss.” @adventuresofanexpat wrote, “The audacity for companies to expect you to choose them over your family.” @mkearney331 stated, “My boss told me they did not have coverage for my OWN wedding (only three days off). I said, well I won't be here so figure it out!”
