Educator with great experience shares why she walked out of interview after they didn’t respect her time

Getting a job interview encourages job seekers and gives them hope that it might work out. However, that does not mean they would ignore all the red flags visible during the interview. A teacher shared on Reddit how she was made to wait for about 20 minutes before the interview, which made her realize that the company was not worth her time and effort. u/Wytch78 began the post by stating that she was looking for a school close to their home. The person writes, "I had a phone interview last week and the Assistant Principal seemed super excited about my skill set and what I could bring to the classroom."

The interview was scheduled for 10 am. "I arrive on time and check in with the receptionist/secretary. And wait. Waited and waited. This isn't a f***ing doctor's visit or a blind date," the job interviewee writes. The person hoped someone would inform her about the delay, but no one did. "Someone could have let me know, 'Hey, sorry, we are running behind, thank you for waiting!' or whatever. The place was practically empty, but I could hear people talking from offices behind the reception area," she writes.

The Reddit user did what they seemed right at that moment. "So, after a good twenty minutes, I got up and told the receptionist I was no longer interested in the position. And I left," writes the person. The post is captioned, "Educator with 15 years experience. Waited 20 minutes for an interview. Got up and left." It has gained more than 19k upvotes on Reddit.

People on the social media platform did not approve of the company’s behavior. “I would have left them a note marking them tardy,” commented u/Kimmer37. “It’s a sign right away of how the place operates. I left one earlier this year, I’d waited 30 or so. They called me up rather rudely suggesting I’d wasted their time by accepting to come but then leave beforehand. An told me it was very unprofessional,” wrote u/Undersmusic. “Good on you. My rule of thumb is...if you expect me to be early for an interview to check in, I expect the interview to start on time. And unless I hear otherwise about any delays or whatnot if it doesn't. I'm gone. If you don't value my time for an interview, you won't as your employee. Simple as that,” said u/EllerRisalo.

Another job seeker, who goes by the name @adminandeve on TikTok, declined a job offer after she spotted red flags in her employer. The first thing she saw was her would-be boss not treating his employees. She walked into the office and saw the person berating someone for 15 minutes before her interview.

The next thing she noticed was that she was asked if she had any life events coming up, by which he meant if she was pregnant. Moreover, everyone in that workplace looked unhappy. She said, "I saw some of the people that were working there and the look of existential dread on their faces was bad."
