Ed Sheeran surprises woman out on her morning jog — ends up taking a song request in surreal interaction

It is the dream of many people to meet their celebrity crush or favorite artist. From making plans to preparing to make this dream a reality, people look forward to this delusional experience time and again. But what would you do if you really met your favorite artist? Nikki Atkins must have made plans, but they were adorably interrupted when artist Ed Sheeran (@teddysphotos) appeared a few steps away from her in an impromptu meet, per BBC Breakfast. Atkins was out on a jog as usual at the London Canal when she saw a familiar face. As any fan would, the moment Atkins thought the “ginger man” could be Ed Sheeran, she ran down to the path to get a clear glimpse. And there was with his guitar- the man in the flash, belting the most melodious tunes along the canal.

The Atkin’s jaw dropped as she recognized Sheeran. She heard the “Perfect” singer’s voice from the boat nearby. It was happening, Atkins was having her moment with Sheeran and she was awestruck. With the boat moving alongside Atkins, she understood and tried to keep up while taking in the moment. The duo had to make the quickest yet most memorable conversation and the singer knew just how. “Inside, I was in complete turmoil and my head, the time it took me to ask for a song was long. I was so shocked that it was that rapid when I saw his video. I ran out onto the path, sort of waved at him, then he asked me for a song request,” Atkins recalled, per Mirror.

Sheeran politely asked her, “Any requests,” and Atkins tried hard to keep herself from “blacking out” in disbelief. “In my head, I was thinking: 'I need to think of a song now, it needs to not be rubbish or basic one - not that he has any rubbish songs obviously!'” she exclaimed. Gleaming with joy, she requested “Tenerife Sea” from the artist’s album “X.” With the boat moving and Atkins keeping up, Sheeran rendered a spontaneous, flawless performance with his guitar. Atkins was smiling as he sang a good portion of the song before wishing her luck on her run. The woman revealed that she hadn’t gone on a run in a long while and when she did, she stumbled upon the most “random” yet “surreal” encounter. However, with all the jitters and feelings of having met one of her favorites, she immediately left for her run after the song ended.

It was when she replayed the scenario in her head that she realized her blunder. Through her chat with BBC Breakfast, she got a chance to thank Sheeran publicly. She said, “Thank you so much again, that was incredibly special. It was so beautiful and just really made my day. He was so lovely as well, so chill and nice, I felt so silly when I was running away at the end as everyone on the boat was watching me, but they were all so lovely. Thank you so much." Sheeran shared the video on his Instagram, delighted that he made a fan’s day. Fellow fans poured in comments, the top ones being their determination to now start runs and jogs, hoping for a similar encounter. @ashleylouisejames noted, “I need to start running again.” @hugotaylorlondon added, “What a joy to make people happy!”
