Ed Sheeran offered a $2 'Peep Show' to people walking by on the street. Hardly anyone took the bait.

Would you believe it if someone stopped you and said Ed Sheeran would play for you privately for $2? Well, it might just be true.

Imagine taking a walk to the grocery store or being on your way to the gym and you bump into your favorite celebrity. Sounds exciting, doesn't it? Surprises like these are something that we remember and cherish for life. Many actors and musicians have made such impromptu public appearances or surprised their fans with a private visit. One notable incident was when British singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran offered a "Peep Show" for pedestrians on the street. The hilarious part was that practically everyone refused to take the bait. Australian comedy duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee orchestrated this prank for their Hamish & Andy show in 2015 and it's a laugh riot.

The "Live Peep Show" was set up in a venue on a busy street and Blake put on a disguise and made himself unrecognizable to invite visitors. The "Perfect" singer was waiting with his guitar behind the curtains. Blake was having a tough time on the street convincing the passersby to check out the 30-second Peep Show for $2. Most people didn't believe Blake and disregarded his invitation, assuming it wasn’t genuine. "Your loss," the comedian quipped as pedestrians showed no interest. Some even said that they didn't know who Ed Sheeran was. Over 50 minutes passed with no visitors to the "Peep Show" and Lee sarcastically mentioned that they might've priced the show too high.

Nearly 2.5 hours passed with no one willing to trust Blake's call. However, one couple seemed slightly interested, as the woman was an Ed Sheeran fan. When the man with her expressed doubt, the woman decided to walk away but Blake somehow convinced them to check it out. Little did they know they would actually witness the singer perform "Thinking Out Loud" for them. The woman was dumbfounded while the man eagerly captured the musician on camera. Thereafter, the "Peep Show" had several visitors who were quite flabbergasted at this surprise celebrity encounter. One of them even sang along with the "Shape Of You" singer while most of them were too keen on pulling out their phones right away.

This video was recently shared on Reddit by u/thebigvsbattlesfan and it went viral. "The one guy who harmonized with him and Ed goes, 'Yes mate!' gets to say, 'I sang with Ed Sheeran and he loved it,'" said u/ThrowRARAw. "The lesson here is to always accept offers of 2$ peep shows from creepy strangers on the street," joked u/Lunar_Spell. "I liked the second guy's reaction he just sat there and sang along in the moment. The other two, immediately phones came out, yeah I know, to prove it happened, etc. Enjoy the moment live it, experience it and you will have a better memory!" chimed in u/ImposterSyndromeNope

This wasn't the first time Ed Sheeran surprised someone in the public. In April 2023, a subway busker named Mike Yung in Brooklyn got the surprise of a lifetime when he realized the British singer was singing along with him. In a video shared by @subwaycreatures on Instagram, we can see that Yung was passionately singing Sheeran's latest release back then, "Eyes Closed." Then he heard another voice tagging along with him and as he looked behind, there he was, the singer himself. The duo shared a hug and Yung said, "You made my day, man."
