Dying wife receives record-breaking 'honor walk' before organ donation at hospital in emotional clip

Just by making many meaningful connections, some good-hearted souls are remembered forever. One such woman was admired by the internet when she broke the hospital record during her 'honor walk.' Organ donors usually make an honor walk before entering the surgery room, and hospital staff, as well as the closest family members, stand in the hallway to pay their last respects. But during Kara Peeks's honor walk, the hospital witnessed an unusually high number of guests who came to bid her goodbye. Her husband Chuck Peeks–who goes by u/fishfarm20 on Reddit–shared the wholesome video.

The video shared this June touched many hearts online. "I wanted to share this here to show everyone how next level my wife is, even in passing. She'd be 43 in July," wrote the husband in his post. Kara passed away this June and since she was an organ donor, the hospital made her do the honor walk. "I still can't believe she's gone," the mourning husband said. "As you may imagine, an Honor Walk entails lining the hallway with hospital staff, friends and family. We were told that forty people showing up was the largest amount until yesterday. Forty-seven of our friends, family and coworkers showed up to shatter the prior record," he added. Chuck was so impressed that his wife touched so many people's lives.

With the "walk-off" song "Ode To My Family" by The Cranberries playing in the background, Kara was taken to the surgery room as dozens of people lined up on either side of the hospital's hallway. The couple's oldest kid picked the song and the husband was so glad that it was "spot-on perfect" for his wife. This heart-wrenching video received over 65,000 upvotes and thousands of comments poured in.

"It's one thing to be a superhero in life; it's next level to be a superhero in death," lauded u/RainFjords and Chuck replied, "She was a superhero in life as well. She worked with special needs children at the elementary school that all three of our kids went to." u/Daddywags42 said, "It's beautiful, in a very sad, heartbreaking, uplifting kind of way. I hope she brings joy to families who would otherwise be dealing with the sorrow you now experience." u/Bayliner215 added, "My mother received a transplant 11 years ago, this past May. Without heroes like your wife, I most likely wouldn't have had the last 11 years with my mom. I'm sure you're grieving, but through this selfless act, you have completely changed untold numbers of lives."

Despite being a healthy mother to three, Kara suddenly had breathing difficulties and collapsed earlier this June, as per Newsweek. After being diagnosed with pulmonary embolism, she slipped into a coma and was soon declared brain-dead. As Kara was an organ donor, she was kept alive using machines before she was finally taken on her honor walk. Including the hospital staff, 80 to 90 people witnessed Kara's final moments. "At that moment, all I could feel was sorrow. Looking back on it, I think half of my tears were those of sorrow, but the other half were joy and pride. There were so many people there for her and the amazing gift she was sharing with the world," Chuck told the media outlet.
