Few designer outfits leave people questioning whether they're really worth their eye-watering price tags, right? And Mary Valderrama's (@mary_ervine_valderrama on Threads) husband can certainly relate. Valderrama wore her Dolce & Gabbana (D&G) denim jacket several times during her vacation, so when she returned, she sent it to a dry cleaner at a U.S. military base. However, during pickup, Valderrama sent her husband, and that was the worst decision of her life. Well, he returned home empty-handed, complaining that the Korean lady at the shop had destroyed her jacket. Heartbroken, the woman went to the dry cleaner, only to burst out laughing. The post was shared on September 6, and it received 1,000 likes and 139 comments.
'They broke it'
On pickup day, Valderrama was feeling a bit lazy, so she sent her husband instead. However, he took a long time, and when he came back home, "he had this very serious, almost devastated expression on his face," as she described. Confused, Valderrama asked about her jacket, and he just responded, "They broke it." Worried that her designer jacket was ruined, she went along with her husband to the dry cleaners. When she got there, the Korean lady who'd dry-cleaned her jacket was crying hysterically. The woman had no clue how "it" happened. She sobbed, worried that she'd lose her job, and wondered how she'd ever get the money to repay Valderrama.
The innocent misunderstanding
Valderrama felt bad for the woman because she had been dry cleaning her laundry for years. Finally, when she brought out the jacket, Valderrama was confused because she couldn't spot any damage. "Wait a minute, there is nothing wrong with my jacket... This is how the jacket is supposed to look! I bought it like this," she explained. Shocked, her husband asked if she had deliberately bought a distressed, broken jacket, to which Valderrama agreed, defending the designer piece. "What is wrong with you? You spent all that money on a jacket that looks like it's been destroyed?" her husband asked, and in the end, everyone ended up laughing at the innocent misunderstanding. In the end, Valderrama advised women to inform their husbands about their designer outfits; otherwise, they might declare war on dry cleaning for ruining them.
Weird fashion choices
Valderrama's husband is not the only one who couldn't understand why she bought such an expensive jacket that looked like it "survived a war." In a survey of 3,000 Americans (by Tommy John, a clothing brand), 59% agreed that ripped or distressed jeans looked 'sloppy.' In fact, women (41%) were more likely to consider the distressed look as 'chic,' compared to 30% of men. The numbers seemed to match Valderrama's hilarious encounter.
'I don't blame your husband'
People found the story hilarious, and a few even judged Valderrama's jacket for being a little too distressed. @mike.da.traveller commented a hypothetical situation, "Imagine taking Golden Goose sneakers to a sneaker cleaning place, then another chaos ensues." @dreamersfx shared, "I would think they would have looked it over before accepting to clean it. This happened to me when the wrinkled look was in style. I took my denim wrinkled shirt into the cleaners, and they ironed it."
