In an interview with Fox News, United States Secretary of Energy Rick Perry claimed Trump was chosen to be President by God himself.
If there's anything that can effectively explain how and why United States President Donald Trump got elected in the first place, it's most probably biblical in nature. Thankfully, Energy Secretary Rick Perry, an evangelical Christian, was helpful enough to explain to us how he became President. In an interview with Fox News' Ed Henry, Perry claimed that Trump was "ordained by God" to assume his position in the White House, CNN reports. However, he did point out that that was how former President Barack Obama, too, became POTUS. It couldn't possibly have been the thousands of dedicated voters who showed up to polling booths in order to determine the future of this country, after all.
In remarks aired on Sunday, Perry stated, "I'm a big believer that the God of our universe is still very active in the details of the day-to-day lives of government... You know, Barack Obama doesn't get to be the President of the United States without being ordained by God. Neither did Donald Trump." It's great that while issues of poverty, hunger, sanitation, human rights violations, and climate change plague hundreds of countries across the world, God has time to decide who gets to be President in little ol' United States.
The Energy Secretary continued to say that though Trump is one of God's many instruments, it doesn't make him perfect. Well, that's a great caveat to just plop right in there. He went on to cite characters from the Bible whose private lives didn't quite align with the morals and principles one would expect from a biblical figure, including King David. We don't know if Perry is trying to make a comparison between Trump and David, but if we're going by the list of sons David had with his various wives and concubines...we can totally see the rather uncanny similarities.
But fret not, though Trump may not be the biblical figure America needs, Perry, is making sure that he is molded into the hero we all deserve — by giving him lessons of the Sunday School kind. "I actually gave the President a little one-pager on those Old Testament kings about a month ago," the former Presidential candidate revealed. "I said, 'Mr. President, I know there are people that say - you know, you said you were the chosen one.' And I said, 'You were.' I said, 'If you're a believing Christian, you understand God's plan for the people who rule and judge over us on this planet in our government.'" As if the last thing Trump needed was an ego boost from God himself, to let him know that he was the special "chosen one." Sure, he may have lost the majority vote, but he sure as hell's got God's. Let's just hope he doesn't get ordained by God for another term.
