A tiny good deed can go a long way, and Dan Simpson's kind gesture brought him all the blessings he could imagine, and that too, right before his retirement. u/JudgeJudyJr shared a clip of 68-year-old Simpson from Boise, Idaho, making a pizza delivery to Brian and Katey Ann Wilson on March 27. They had ordered a pizza and a 2-liter Diet Coke, but Domino's had run out of the soda. Simpson decided to go to the next store that was 3 minutes away to grab two bottles of Diet Coke for the couple. Upon delivery, Brian was surprised that Simpson went out of his way to get them their drink, and asked if he could add more to his tip. However, Simpson kindly declined and was pleased with the original tip.

In order to appreciate Simpson's kind deed, Brian said that he would call Domino's to let them know that he is a great employee. Simpson shared that he was working two jobs, and was retiring in 26 days. He has been delivering pizzas for Domino's for over 14 years. The interaction between Brian and Simpson was caught on their Ring camera, and Katey Ann Wilson decided to share the wholesome moment on TikTok. Overnight, the video blew up and Simpson became famous. The video has 637.5k likes and more than 5000 comments. Furthermore, to help Simpson with his retirement, Brian set up a GoFundMe called "Tip for Dan the Pizza Man’s Retirement." So far $102,540 has been raised out of $130K.

Dan Simpson's good deed has spread far and wide across the country. Idaho Statesman (@idahostatesman) interviewed him to see what he had to say about the turn of events. Simpson said that he did not think much of it when he grabbed the two Diet Cokes. When the couple praised him for being the man that he was, Simpson remained humbled and said that he was just getting a soda. The couple assured him that they would bring him a larger tip the next day, but he did not expect it to be such a large sum for such a small gesture. Simpson said that he had always tried to "work hard and go the extra mile," and he thought maybe that is why he is being rewarded. He always tried to be a nice guy because he knew what it was like to be "down and out." Simpson also joked about contacting the Corvette company to ask for a car so he could deliver pizzas in a Corvette. Laughing, he said that the pizzas would arrive on time with a car like that.

A huge number of the U.S. population depend on takeout, delivery, and drive-thrus for their meal in 2025. A report by the National Restaurant Association revealed that 47% of American adults pick up their food from restaurants, coffee shops, and other places at least once a week. 42% reported that they get their food from a drive-thru each week. 37% would get their food delivered to their house once a week. However, these numbers are higher for millennials and Gen Zs. While Simpson felt like grabbing Diet Cokes from the store next door was not a big deal, his willingness to go the extra mile made the transaction a genuinely heartfelt moment.

The Reddit post has 18k upvotes and 174 comments at the time of writing. Netizens loved Dan Simpson for being kind to the couple. The majority of them wished he would get the Corvette he joked about. u/ph0on shared that they have done this in the past and wished they had received the same as Simpson, but also expressed their happiness for the 68-year-old man, "I've done this at least twice when I slung pizza, wish I got 50k out of my good deeds. Good for this fella though, I am happy for him." u/Ok_Kick4871 commented, "You know what a good manager does when they're out of Diet Coke? They have an employee go next door and buy some Diet Coke. This was so close to being a nothing story. And yet humanity rewards this (deserving) man with kindness. I love a feel-good story."
