There's nothing quite like the unconditional love of a pet.
When two people get into a relationship, they share a life together— which often means sharing a pet. Unfortunately, when the two people break up, that means, at least for one partner, saying goodbye to a furry friend that they've bonded with. A woman named Jen shared a video of her pet dog who was devastated at seeing its owner’s partner leave after a breakup. She shared a video on TikTok of the little paw pal seated quietly as it watched the man leave. In its eyes, one could see the tear-jerking pain it was going through.
“Watching my dog say goodbye to my ex is the hardest part of this breakup,” the text overlay read. As the dog watched the man getting his stuff to leave, it couldn’t help but simply look on. “They became so close and she adores him,” the woman explained. As the man picked up his bag, the dog’s face got sadder. The change in her eyes and facial expressions loudly revealed how upset and dejected she felt. As the man rubbed and petted her, the dog kept feeling awful, realizing that this was a goodbye.
The woman also mentioned that the man loved her dog and it was hard to watch the two interact for the last time. People empathized with the dog and were heartbroken for the many pets who suffer when partners split. Several people shared their experiences of how pets grieve with their partners when they lose someone. @geisha.tarot said, “When my husband cheated on me and left, my dogs waited at the door every day for him to turn up for 3 months.” @nightfall_6.2_ said, “The worst part is you can’t even explain to dogs why someone left. To them, they’re just gone without ever knowing why.”

@ktressi suggested allowing the man to see her dog, writing “My ex still comes to see my dog and gets her a Christmas and birthday present and takes her out for the day.” @mariahm664 said, “This is why I don’t bring people around if they don’t stay, it’s heartbreaking to the poor babies.” @adeliciamaerissa said, “This is honestly the hardest thing to watch. My dog has been with us 8 weeks and watching his dad leave has been the hardest thing.” The woman shared a follow-up video sharing that she invited her grandma to help boost her dog’s feelings.
The woman also mentioned that the dog was close to the grandma as that was her first home before she had adopted her. She went all the way down to the car to greet Grandma and was super happy to see her. The wagging of the tail and excited behavior were relieving enough to understand that the dog was at least feeling better. @taylordmh said, ”Must be a grandma thing. All my dogs have had such a close connection to my grandma.” @aubis2003 said, “The tail went crazy when she saw grandma.” @pammykay1 said, “I’m glad grandma came to cheer her up.”
